*Wonders how your Weapons are supposed to fire on Threats sitting right on top of the very base of the Mountainside in their current state...*
Hey all you crazies... I had to signup just to tell you how much I've enjoyed all your stories and banter in here. Added bonus I can now actually see all your purdy pictures properly! Would love to play with you guys buuuuuut, time....
Hi Tyrax The only attacks on the base where from drones so I sited them to engage as they came over the mountain beyond. There was no real need for the guns to traverse below the platform height as the landscape forced the attackers into the gunnery sight lines. I've squashed the drone base into a mangled mess and put it out for recycling so there are no threats as it it only a single player game. I will probably turn that part of the base into the landing area and use the tunnel that links it with the main building. Thanks for the like.
Yesterday I took screenshots of the new expedition base, and made a lite version to share, which only requires 4 erestrum and zascosium. Then I logged onto the server and started making preparations for our expedition to Omicron. I tend to make the mistake of not having ammo for these bases as soon as I spawn them. This time, I stocked the cargo box of my combat SV with all the necessary ammo. I took care of basic chores like stocking repositories with ammo, servicing autominers, and making more multitool charges--we use a lot of them salvaging POIs after raids. I went to the racetrack as soon as I was done, so I could practice racing at night. I failed miserably! It's a challenging course in the best conditions though. I decided to try the track with my motorbike but there's a big jump the bike just cannot make. LOL When the sun came up, we decided to do a few timed laps for fun (and start positions, I assume). As you can probably guess, my best time was still the worst. Then I went hunting, Talon slaying, and collecting medicinal plants to take with us when we go. Last but not least, we raided the Outpost again because I set up an autominer too close to it. I don't know why I didn't take any pictures during the game session, that's really not like me at all.
Just a quickie, more of an observation from my activities last night... So, just cos, I built Sentry Turrets hidden behind Ramp Blocks on the front of my Skillon outpost. I'd pull a lever, the Ramps would retract, revealing the Turrets, and the Turrets would also activate. The AI would not target Powered-Off Sentry Turrets when behind an extended (shut, in effect) ramp block. I did the same test again, but this time using Shutter Doors. The AI will target a powered-off turret behind a closed shutter door it seems - unless it was shooting the Shutter Door its self? Not extensive testing by any means, but just what I've been seeing occur. I for one will be happy when proper LoS is working. Scoob.
Well I have created a level 22 carrier but never finished it but the biggest playable ship I have right now is a level 8 and it's still not finished. lol I use creative mode a lot whenever I'm trying something new. Level 7 is big enough when your in single player mode but i love building so I play around with larger ships and whenever I finish them I bring the over to my survival mode game. My goal is to build and complete a level 28 or a level 30 ship. Maybe the game will be in Beta by the time I finish something that big. lol
I wonder, just how large is a level 22 CV? I think the largest ship I've seen in-game is actually a BA, cos it's a wreck. It's the Hyperion and I think it was on Akua moon, that ship is massive. I guess, somewhere, there's a proper CV version of that model...assuming the various wrecks start out of CV's, get doctored to look damaged, then converted to BA's via the console. I might have a play in creative sometime, I so rarely use it. Scoob.
size and class are only lightly linked, you can have class 22 in a very small package if you go high detail, and probably create a vogon constructor at the same class (they hung in the air, just like bricks don't) the main things that bloat the class are lights, devices, and high-poly blocks, so if you keep away from large numbers of those, you can go quite large, or conversely, pack it with those, and it'll end up tiny
Ah, Ok, I thought it was linked to Mass somehow lol. Yeah, I very rarely add any deco devices to my builds, just one each for the medical items now they have a function. Other than that, it's just windows (which is a device rather than a block I understand) and defences. Regarding blocks, my designs aren't as elaborate a many out there, so I guess I use simpler blocks for the most part. As I do all my CV building in a creative game - while also potentially defending the build site - I tend to skip on aesthetics a bit. Scoob.
Today, after encountering some technical difficulties (AKA bug) in my current game as well as having too little imagination to decide what to do next, I started a new game. For the first time in ages I selected Akua, hard difficultly of course, but with *gasp* normal levelling speed. Just got to say, I feel so very relaxed! Breathable air, temperate, food just laying on the ground (Corn etc.) and very few hostile critter. Bliss. I even found the Titan Wreck sections near my drop site, all lined up North to South. Liking the revised models, a definite improvement and, at last using proper "L" blocks, rather than re-scaled old blocks. I actually get decent amounts of resources back from reclaiming now All I've done so far is explore a bit, mine a little, mostly from Rocks (yields appear to be up a fair bit from what I remember) and excavate the Titan Wreck centre section, which I'm using as a temporary base. Have encountered just three drones, one guarding each of the Titan sections I discovered. I'm now level 7 - seem to have got there soooo very quickly lol - and I'm starting SV construction. You know, I loved the epic challenge of a Hard Masperon start - it really was very tough - but this Akua start is so....refreshing so far. I can see myself spending some additional time building this game Oh, the tweaks to the Bike are pretty damn good, looks like they added actual brakes to it...who knew what a difference that would make. Also, the new T1 AR sound is nice...I approve Scoob.
@Scoob And to think I've just been biding time on Oscatun slowly ridding the planet of each and every POI. Next stop is my Akua home to reset a bit and swap my "Hive" CV for my first complete CV build. Not looking forward to the cargo tranfer there! While this CV has taken a couple real life weeks to put together I've pushed myself to try just about anything and add some elements to it that I've seen many of you come up with. Hopefully when it's finally done it doesn't just look like every other first build! If nothing else, it's mine and made for how I play. Speecifically the wall of cargo boxes acting as the wall between hangar and manufacturing for quick off loading to processing! Funny part was having completed (mostly) the shell and rooms, going back to check that it's airtight I came across an entire room I completely forgot about! Good times will be had....
@Its Just Steve - I used to have to clear a planet, either utterly destroying, reclaiming or capturing ALL hostile POI's before I was allow to leave. On my Masperon start, I settled for taking out the PV and Drone Base, as well as a couple of other "staging" POI's. Certain POI's I just took out because they dared fire at me while I was on my way to do something else lol. As the pace is so much slower on Akua, and no PV of course - this time at least, I modded them in to Akua previously - I'm thinking of a slightly different approach... I have the Titan rear section as my temporary base, I've also looted all other Titan sections, reclaiming anything of value. There's still a few thousand blocks worth of resources there, and it's all Hardened Steel now the models have been updated As my Titan base hasn't triggered drone attacks, I'm thinking I'll not establish a "proper" base at this time, rather save for my CV build. I'm considering going a very modular build starting with a basic flyable bridge, then tack-on rooms for various functions. Only when the room layout is complete, will I surround the build in Combat Steel blocks. That's my plan, such as it is, thought I might entirely forget it by the time I next get the chance to play lol. Scoob.
And an update... Pretty happy with the 90% finished first CV I built. Then i took a look at the stats. Hmmmm, why is the backwards thrust so much higher than forward??? ... nope, thrusters are correct... Put in a cockpit and had to flip it around. Apparently I built the thing bass-ackwards! Oddly, controls are the same, but I'll always know.... It actually flies pretty well but I may REMOVE two of the t2 rcs units so it's more "realistic" gasp!
That's been my plan on my first legit playthrough. Conquer and burn to the ground. It got to the point I had so much hardened steel and steel plates I settled for just looting and ripping out a bottom layer and watching the whole thing tumble. For now I'll just loathe my backwards, though pretty CV.
You're not the first and certainly won't be the last making that mistake Luckily not one I've done myself....yet lol. I recall having rows of Cargo Boxes just to hold my Steel, Hardened Steel and Glass Plates... actually, ALL my games get like that at some point. CV's can take a lot of raw materials, so it's not a bad thing. Currently, I have the Titan wrecks I can reclaim, as well as a couple of Civilian POI's I've got my eye on. However, I only have the T1 Multi-tool currently - it's all I can build - and there's no way I'm dismantling anything large with the T1... Once I get the T2, I'll start reclaiming and set up a dedicated block making Constructor Scoob.
@Scoob I definitely have the rows of containers already! Has me thinking my plan on my next long voyage will be just leaving 95% of everything at home on Akua in the warehouse. Lord knows I'll come back with just as much even with building outposts on every. single. place I go. Hopefully I can sneak onto the planets with Zasc and Erestrum successfully this time! Or at least not get ambushed again...
Ahh, the shenanigans one can pull off on the dum dum NPCs... *Ponders Suggesting to the Devs to see if they can figure out how to make a AI Alien PV equivalent of a Hover War Tank...* From what i've observed & experienced Shutters are regarded like, thus treated like, Doors. Ramps used as 'Diagonal Doors' don't seem to get treated like Doors even though if we want something to act like Doors, but operating Diagonally, Ramps are the only choice... thus the Conundrums get caused... Pro Tip: Never ever rotate a Cockpit Block away from its Default Orientation when placing. (Better safe then sorry to also repeat this for RCS as well.)
@Tyrax Lightning Thing with the cockpit is I left the big starter block in place until I absolutely had to move it. So I'm still pretty sure I built in the right direction. However, stats page has my reverse at double my forward thrust and when placing my final cockpit location it was turned backwards. But, it still flies normally. Go figure. As for RCS, I didn't think they had any type of directional or placement affects at all. *side note, I've very much enjoyed galavanting about in your "Hive". Though it's had a couple of renos.
Hmm... "Hive"... not ringing a bell... dunno if my damn RL memory's flunking at its job or not... This might be Bug Report worthy. BP of the CV is recommended for Submission.
