I was going to get some help with painting the exterior, but I just kept painting and painting I'm not finished, but here's how the job is going so far. I wrote this post last night when I finally made myself stop painting. I must've been a bit tired because I forgot to click the post reply button. I really wanted to finish doing the basecoat myself after I'd finished most of it. I also had to paint some details and accents just to show @Friendly Timo the basic theme so he knows which base texture to use for each part of the ship. After the basecoat is all done, Timo is going to finish installing the floors inside--currently there are a lot of beams but not all floors were finished yet. Now I am firmly resisting the urge to backseat-design while he's working at it
Not necessarily--a lot of bots are from search engines and certain types of directories. Those bots just seek out every scrap of new content they find, and they return to content sources to look for more. Those are the good bots.
Hey Guys, iam new to this thread. So i will come straight at you Lately i have found myself in builting more alien like and its quite something. The problem is the painting and texturing. Maybe somebody can come up with some intresting texture-paint-combinations.......because the textures we have are more for human-made-ships with pipes and electrics and i don't want to use marble only and here are these alien-like beautys. The "Mothership" (yes it is a CV and the legs are atteched to it), was built first The Night is nice, because there it can shine through the glowing textures a little dropship (sv) and a small Hunter (sv) These i built afterwards, so i can see if the color and texture fits. So if u have some suggestions, i will try these out. And i think i will add some more ships as well.
@Faith those alien designs are fantastic! About the textures and colour scheme, I recommend experimenting with a texture in a large enough area that you can pull back and get a sense of how it looks from a distance.
Taking a look at the Experimental update new bloom effect. I kind of hope the devs keep it in the game even if it's just an option for those like me who love the new look. Of course there needs to be a little adjustments made here and there because the sun glare is too bright in certain parts like the bottom picture but besides that I like it. Well, here are some shots of my BA. It's very empty at the moment, but I just played around with the Texture Tool for a few minutes. I had tried the Colour Tool beforehand, but Concrete can't really take colour properly, so Texture it is. I'm standing on the main CV Landing Pad, looking back towards the BA. Walking through the main entrance, I've textured, as well as popped down some basic Deco...just some bits I had in my inventory from my recent POI raids. Walking out the back door, to the right in the above shot, there's a bridge leading to my Deployables... Super slippery stairs leading down... My deployables, CV in the backgound Looking back at the BA...hmm, need to reverse a couple of those window blocks! I've jumped in the CV's cockpit, gone external view and zoomed out...everything all in one shot. Another angle. So, a very basic Concrete BA created by me last night...did some texturing today, which didn't go too bad. Distant screenshots like this do highlight the need for distant LoD models for Lights and Doors. Not really put much in this BA yet, it doesn't really need it. I might do a bridge to another room to use as a "home", the structure currently feels very "open to the public"...I'm in SP lol. Scoob.
I know it's your basic Concrete Base but why do I have the urge to book a room for a vacation now? lol It looks like a really cool vacation spot or a resort with turrets . I would used this base in my survival game. It's really relaxing when you look at it on the water. I like it..
Thanks. I'm sorta torn currently. On the one hand, I'm preparing to leave Akua, likely for good as I have a mobile base of course, which was the goal for this play through. However, I've just finally finished upgrading all my AMiD's to T3, so they'll start putting out decent amounts of Ore soon, no more manual mining of the basic Iron, Copper, Silicon, Cobalt and Magnesium for me! With this in mind, I thought adding an Ore Processing room to the BA might be nice. So, you leave the landing pad and enter the lounge area, go upstairs for observation area and roof. Cross over the bridge to gather resources from the deployables etc. The Ore Processing room would be linked by a bridge also, and contain a Furnace, and room for processed Ores. I have no need of this, but it might be fun. Of course, if I'm building a furnace, I might as well set up basic crafting facilities...maybe a Fridge, Food Processor...ooo, I could grow stuff....*sigh* you see how this is going to snowball? Lol. I've done this before, played around building stuff, which is arguably totally superfluous to requirement, for so long that a major update has landed forcing a restart Random thought of the future: One day, I'd love to be able to automate collecting Ores from my AMiD's and processing them in the Furnace. I wonder if player-owned Drones will ever be able to undertake such tasks.... Scoob.
I'm the same way. Sometimes I make Akua my home planet and go exploring but never settle on any other planet. If I;m not mistaking on that survey we took last year it listed some type of conveyor system . I guessing like Space Engineers has. So maybe in the future we will have automated system for processing ore. which would be awesome.
Yeah, some degree of automation would be welcome for sure. Oh, I went ahead and built another room to hold a Furnace and Storage. Quite pleased with it. Didn't stop there and made a small docking platform just off the Furnace room where an HV or SV can dock to drop off Ore. I even popped a large Cargo Box there to temporarily dump ore. In a future version, this Cargo Box would be able to directly feed the Furnace of course I'll get some screen shots up in a bit, it's night currently and I have a few jobs to finish off. Note: I know I can make it daytime using the Console, but I do try to resist using it for things other than working around the odd bug. Scoob.
Right, day dawned so I took a couple of shots of my efforts. First we have an aerial shot of my entire base, you can see the original two floored space with the glass dome on top. Looks a little odd from this angle. To the left you can see the Furnace room. This is actually just one floor, five blocks high, but I wanted to match the look. Just down from the Furnace room is my little docking pad area. An SV can land directly, however an HV needs to approach from the bottom, where it will trigger a sensor that both retracts a ramp barrier and extends a second ramp to make access easy. The second ramp isn't strictly needed - unless I'm on the bike - but I like it. The first ramp of course will block any predators that may follow me when on the bike. Next we have an interior shot of the Furnace room. Nothing special but I have barriers so I don't cook when the Furnace is active, plus three large storage boxes either side - labelled with an LCD showing their contents. That's it. Fairly simple stuff, but I quite like the basic design. Shame I have no need for this base what so ever lol. That said, I just did an AMiD run to collect some ores, so the Furnace has work to do, if I so desire. Possibly I should add a further offshoot to this room for Promethium and Magnesium processing... Oh, from an aesthetic stand point, I would rather have used glass doors, in fact I did initially. However, despite the base not needing O2, sealed doors are needed in order for it to control the temperature. Seems it can do this just fine without ventilators. Oddly, I'm regularly getting too hot on Akua, despite wearing Light armour. Temperatures regularly get into the mid-40's (centigrade) which is just outside my comfort zone. I think it's likely my EVA boost lowering my upper threshold somewhat. Scoob.

Spoiler: more pics Disclaimer: Anybody likes some role play, right? ;-) But indeed with the Experimental Patch 6.6 my Omega-Fighter-Line will experience heavy problems as they have Shutter windows in front of the Guns to increase survivability. As this is seen as a Bug/Exploit and now being fixed - somewhat - this "feature" does not work anymore...
@rucky - if you need all that just to kill drones, you really need to git gud Excellent design btw Scoob.
I've been noticing some high temps in unboosted light armor on Akua. I've also seen crop killing low overnight temps at sea level near the equator. I haven't been able to grow crops in the open for a while now - no matter where I plant them. Not a big deal though I enjoyed the ability to create fanciful farms on the earthlike planets.
Thanks for the info. I've not actually tried to grow anything outside for a while. However, before my CV was sealed - it was originally my only base - crops did grow, but they took quite literally game days to ripen. Once I sealed the Farm room - so everything else the same, they grow very quickly. Note: I've always used grow lights regardless, but my early crops were exposed to local temps of course. I do hope for a day when we need something like that for drone hunting. I will say that, if you allow them to get close, drone are more of the threat than they once were. I had two spawn while I was engaging the Drone Base and, even though they were only the most basic Minigun Drones, they wrecked my Cockpit in a few seconds and I had to retreat. Scoob.
@Scoob EVA booster is good for one thing - surviving in space. Otherwise, it's quite bad. I have set up a suit specific for space travels - otherwise I like to use light armour with multi boosts. There's quite big difference for example how often you have to eat and so on.
