Alright! My earlier inspiration did not pan out like I wanted. But! I think I finally have an answer to the Red Barron: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1110411621 Introducing, Carrion! Steam Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1117006497
Mini update: So, I'm on Ningues, hovering in my CV & around 450 metre up. I've found the three parts of the crashed CV here and plan to make looting these my task. To do this however, I've had to take out two nearby POI's, a "Supply Station" which is now my ground base and the second just called "Base", who external weapons I've taken out. I return to my hovering CV, unloading some of the loot I've obtained when I spot the Ningues PV approaching. Now, I know the PV can reach my altitude, though equally it'll take a while to get up here. So, I jump in my SV and proceed to nerf it, taking out both its heavy turrets and Sentries. Sentries are a pain as they don't render until you're quite close. Anyway, I nerf the PV expecting it to head home for repairs, but it doesn't. So, I'm standing in my hovering CV, watching the de-fanged PV getting closer. I'm standing in the rear doorway looking out when....I discover one of the Sentries was still active...Oops lol. I take it out with the minigun, feeling quite epic as I jetpack-jump around the exterior of my hovering CV - one slip could be....problematic lol. Anyway, I grab my hand-held Plasma Cannon planning to take out a couple of the PV's thrusters, hopefully causing him to fly home. I'm looking around the ramp I'm standing on, trying to get LoS on the PV's thrusters when a Plasma Drone is right in my face!! Yep, a Plasma Drone had gotten up to my height, not seen that before. At near point-blank hitting him in the "eye" was an easy matter, so he fell quickly. Gave me a shock though! So, that's just a little snippet of this evening thus far. It's good to see drones actually flying higher to get me, as I felt largely safe up here beforehand. It's still a good tactic to hover like this, but you're not quite safe! Once my ground base is fortified of course, the hovering CV will be safe. Note: my CV's by design weakness - well, one of them - is that all it's turrets are on top, so it cannot shoot down I will be making a hovering "battle platform" that'll be the opposite Scoob.
@hound I really like how those designs look! Damn impressive work! @Fractalite Carrion definately looks really sleek design! Definately going to take a closer look. I am fan of that particular cockpit too. They did a great job with it! @Starwing6 you silly goose that is so funny Yeah thats the reason I put it there at the top floor uh huh Today we did do a test flight with my new design (WIP) DSV Trident together with Rainyday and Starwing6 and then we went for an adventure. I guess Starwing6 is going to do update on that in more detail
Heh, it's like if the Angelico had a stocky linebacker for a cousin. Nice! Textures aren't my favorite but I do like the shape. (And I'm amused how frequently I see that style of engine pod popping up now)
That's remarkably similar to something I built a while back in terms of the crescent shape. However, with mine the single cockpit was on the right, with thrusters in the middle section. Weapons were quite similar though. I think I abandoned it before it was finished due to a version update I must admit, I've largely abandoned all but the most basic SV/HV builds. The former because in SP my basic builds are all I ever need. The latter for similar reason, but also my epic "survival tank" builds I drop onto hostile worlds cause issues when docked at my CV. With my uber tank docked, my main CV is near unflyable due to an fps tank. Strange but true lol. Scoob.
We had a fun adventure this evening First, I did some texturing and painting on Gargoyle. I finished the exterior and started the interior. Then I got to go for a ride in Trident with @rainyday and @Friendly Timo and enjoyed some serious sight-seeing photography tour! Flying around and taking so many pictures is the best way to plan my paint job We all got in our SVs and headed up to orbit to take out a carrier that @Friendly Timo spotted. It was a lot of fun shooting the hell out of that place and it's few drones with our ships. Then we tore it apart, and all I could think of was how every scrap of metal was going to look on Wyvern some day soon. Finally, we wrapped up our game session with our customary coffee break--this time at the Omicron Orbit Trading Station. What a great place to visit! This got my attention for sure! I stopped and listened to their argument. Some of it I cannot repeat, but I like these two guys a lot.
Yeah I loved the engine pods on the Angelico you did a damn nice job with that ship! And on the textures, I'm still not sold on all the work on this one but I like to try and mix it up a little within the limits of the palette. The problem i'm finding is that a lot of the textures only really work with bold colours and a lot look rubbish on large surfaces. Also I don't want to find myself just using the same ones for the same job again and again till all my ships look the same. Oh if anybody wants to take a crack at re-doing some of the texture work I've included the bp. Just throw some pic's up when your done so I can see how other people would approach this.
*Wonders why ya aren't using Mining HVs...* I still to this day wonder what it must be like to be able to run a Mining CV with 4 Mining Drills actually being Manned by a team of 4 - 5. IMHO ya woulda been better off setting the Turrets where they could concentrate fire forward more effectively... Spoiler: Like this... Only 2 Miniguns for rear defense & my Homers for Flank Defense don't fire forward effectively. Reminds me of Pokémon Sun & Moon where ya get 6 Pics then choose the one ya think turned out the best... taken up to 11. Easy to do while the current Era is "The Age of Mining HVs". Interesting... maybe "Spotlight Ships" have not gone totally obsolete then... If those Gatlings are sticking ahead of the Harvester, ya might have a bit hard a time getting the Harvester ONTO the Tree to nom it out of the way & stop it from stalling your way through the Forests...
Funny Tyrax...It's a REAVER tank, there is no harvest box....It just sprays blood to lubricate the tank tracks....BWAHAHAHAHAH...I will sit down now and calm down........got to start work on the CV......
Stubbiest... Lighthouse... ever... XD My Tyrax Hover War Tank uses its Harvesters to eat Foes & Trees alike so it can melee AND eat its way through Forests instead of getting outright stopped cold by Forests. Go ahead & let your Tank get stopped cold by Forests... then mine will look like the better Tank of the two. (& also has Harvest Boxes to nom the Wood to eventually sell to @Slam Jones for profit.)
I was trying to update my Spaceballs Winnebago and the blueprint broke. The folder is labeled correctly but the update button is greyed out for some reason(and sometimes it says publish instead of update). Meh.
Further to my earlier post, here are some pictures...they never look quite as good as on my gaming monitor lol. Hmm, well that went horribly wrong. All of my screen shots are reporting as too large for the server and the upload fails. Never had that before. Wonder why the .pngs taken by the game are suddenly larger...or is it perhaps a forum change / issue? Ah well, my captured Rados Supply Station with a huge swath of concrete for a landing pad attached will remain a mystery to you all. As will my tweaks to said BA... and the shots of my CV majestically hovering in the (high) background while I work *sigh* Anyway, I've established a well-equipped and defended presence on Ningues now in a captured "Supply Station" (with RADOS written on it) POI. It has extra Fuel and O2 Storage, sealed rooms with their own ventilators in case of hostile action as well as its own construction facilities. Medical and O2 Stations are present inside the main entrance and I may even expand a little to allow for a farm. Defence-wise we have three basic Cannon Turrets - who've already taken out several drones - as well as four Rocket Turrets, who've had nothing to do so far. Oddly, despite taking out the PV some time ago, and getting the "despawn" message, I just had another such message, not sure what that's about. I'm hoping the PV will regen, I think it's supposed to by default right? If it does, I think I'm ready. No drone attacks sent at this captured POI thus far, prior drones were wanderers I think. So, I now have a secure staging area very near two of the CV wreckage sections, and not all that far from the third, should be able to do some salvage work next session Oh, btw, my CV has remained hovering for hours. I periodically pop back to it in my SV, but I've not entered the cockpit for a while now...it's not fallen out of the sky yet lol. Scoob.
@Tyrax Lightning , this one was to see if I could come up with a convincing light. I even tried an "HV" inside the lighthouse with banks of spotlights. No joy. Now that I know that I'll build the thing taller and keep it around for atmosphere.
I'd actually quite like a Spotlight block for BA's... many a time I've wanted better exterior and interior illumination. I've used Spotlights internally on CV's to great effect - each docked HV / SV in it's own pool of bright illumination. Scoob.
Pfft. Apache isn't ugly, just efficient. I could probably shave a few hundred iron easily if I didn't insist on using those long slopes & angles. I appreciate the kind words though. Finding room for that stupid bulky warp-drive is always the worst part of building a CV for me - you could squeeze four constructors and plenty of cargo storage into the space that damn thing occupies. As for the variants... other than being more durable and maneuverable, there's very little (visual) difference between the SE and LXS. Most notably, the tail is enlarged and extended to provide more... 'luxurious' crew accommodations, including a proper bathroom. I also decided to bolster the central hull's underside (hangar floor) with combat steel, since it's largely wall sections which have half the HP of full blocks. Final Iron tally comes out to just over 4400, but the added weight means even with additional / more powerful thrusters, the performance specs are less than I'd like (27m/s forward and up, 13m/s in most other directions.
Maybe someday Bases will get Spotlights too. & yet the Devs still act as if they think 'Bulkiness' of stuff is a non-factor for Item Balance purposes...
I figured out that trick on my last build, now I am going back and seeing which other ships could benefit from mounting internal spotlights. ... and it looks very cool when you have a ship parked underneath it. I also tried a near/far configuration by mounting a circular light on the spotlight cube. I am debating on how it looks. The only annoyance, the light goes THROUGH the CV, illuminating the ground beneath it. It also goes through any SV/HV you have in your hangar and illuminates any floors you have inside them.
