I love the level the detail on this ship. I'm glad not every ship is built with combat in mind because space games need cargo and exploration ships. . It reminds of a cargo ship or a mining ship.
Love it! Fantastic lines and fantastic details. I particularly like the usage of large -> small -> large pipes. It's not something I had considered or seen before and looks great (and now I am going to shamelessly copy!). I need to get back to work on mine. I have been mucking about with HV's and SV's, and playing some Lost City of Sol-Exploration instead. At least what I worked out from that is that I can comfortably live on a planet in a small HV with 2x mobile constructors, a couple of storage boxes and a fridge. Only need to briefly stop at civilian POI's with a Large/Advanced Constructor for a few things - outside of that I can manage quite comfortably. It's fun to not care about the PV (just hover away!) or night time... Just follow the sun
Made a prototype HV today: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1118682576 As mentioned in the workshop entry, it's a prototype tank designed for high speed lateral evasion and frontal combat specifically. If anyone is interested in trying it, I would love to hear if the 'Shredder' turrets function as intended, and if the tank's thrusting power is good enough to evade fire competently. The idea behind the shredders was to place turrets in such a way that they could only fire on a narrow point, the intention being to allow the ai-controlled turrets to still fire with their usual accuracy, while giving the pilot more control over where they aim. In theory, it they should only fire at targets in front, directly above, or directly below the tank.
The details you integrated into the design are convincing and they make it definitely look to be a deep space vessel. I can see it majestically passing by.
I think I broke my brain.....So I am trying to make the REAVER CV... Do you have any idea how hard it is to jettison all of the "correct" way of doing things and just make a mess of a wrecked hull fitted with engines. Fuel tanks just crammed in, no armor no separation. Stuff just placed randomly. Maybe in a couple of days I will finish this but it is a pain in the brain.
Today I built and blueprinted a small oupost for personal use on hostile PVE worlds. It's mainly intended as a support base for my combat SVs, but it has everything I might need to survive a stranding in a hostile environment. First deployment is planned for Aitis, where I have some autominers working on Erestrum deposits.
I love your design aesthetics jmtc. That hull that is your avatar image is a go-to design I have used several times. Beautiful work!
OK kidlets. I've finally built to a place where I'd love to share it with you all. Initially had wanted that long and sleek design where everything was all on the same path towards the cockpit. But it turned out kinda stubby, but I quite like the look so far, and the cockpit ended up above the engineering at the back. I think I tore the cockpit apart 5 or 6 times before I got to where it is. Would LOVE some feedback particularly where it comes to the hangars front/back. Engines are all over the place but with at least some thought. Only thing decorated is the cabin at the front, because I needed a nap. For now it's decorated in the style of @Scoob Also, being Canadian, sorry for the pic spam about to happen. --------------------------------- Top profile From aft starboard Front profile (A little puppy doggish) From the rear of the hangar (that's Drone Hunter MKV by @rucky for scale) Bridge view Kitchen / Dining leading into the cabin at the front (Lookin at you @Starwing6 ) Engineering. No heat/radiation issues here! Captain's quarters. I really like about half of what I did here. Finally, from the starboard observation platform
Thanks Fractalite! I try to hide my generally poor physical design skills with judicious use of the paint and texture tools - looks like the ruse worked! I've tinkered around with the outpost some more (updated screenies above) and went ahead and put it on the workshop: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1118780202 I've actually been cribbing a lot of your elements and details in my latest builds - I've been using a couple of ships which you've updated in my current game (Industry and Galactic Cargo), and credit those for teaching me how to wire up logic cicuits for my bases, so thanks very much for putting them out there. @Just Steve - that looks MASSIVE! Let us know when we can download it!
Thanks mate. That profile made me pretty happy finally. Par for the course on this build but it was redone a few times almost entirely at the back. @jmtc I don't think it's as big as it looks but it's about twice the size of anything else I've done. 75% hangar because somehow it matters most to me. And still feels a bit narrow! I put the kitchen upstairs just so I'd have to get out of the hangar once in a while. Blueprint sharing. Guess I gotta pop that cherry some time hey?
Oh you Canadians... As a Finn I can somewhat relate - but I guess we are more like silently sorry about everything we do and hoping our existence won't inconvinience the others around us too much Great looking ship btw!
@Its Just Steve - Very nice Haven't been able to play of late, so haven't even started my planned second CV build. Was going to do it after I returned "home" to Akua, my current game still sees me in the Alien Outpost sector, assaulting the POI there to allow me access to the Pentaxid asteroid there. Question: do many of you sketch out your designs first, be it on paper or some tool? I generally have a very rough idea of a look I'm going for, which utterly changes by the time I'm finished. The only designs I've done that have gone as planned - CV-wise at least - are my last two, that I've shown here. While much smaller, I am currently preferring my new modular CV build. However, if I expand it any more it's going to need more thrust. Scoob.
Already tryied you HV, fate, really cool. In my opinion: 1.really powerful minigun, Perfect to make holes in the hull. 2.really good speed 3.cooool cool style, really like it A think that i think it might be worked on a Little is the manovrability. More rcs could help. In the end : 9,5/10
@Its Just Steve you're Canadian too, eh? Oh please tell me you love the Habs or are a fan of the Hip Yesterday I spent several hours working on Wyvern. I have no pictures to show for it just yet because I'm in the middle of constructing the 2nd floor rooms. There's the SV High Bay above the main HV/SV hangars I worked on so much last week. Yesterday I finished up the wall textures and paint in the SV High Bay and added cargo boxes, and then began designing the rest of the floor. Then I went on the server and finished decorating the prototype vessels Gryphon and Gargoyle. I took a few shots of Gryphon last night. The hull texture and combat steel textures have changed since I took the shots, but the ship only looks better, in my opinion. Anyhow, here's the finished up Gryphon SV. When @Friendly Timo joined me, I was able to texture and paint the bottom. I also really wanted to get a screenshot of Gryphon at night, to show it's tail and belly. I also finished up the interior of Gargoyle, but now I can do something different because I can add switches to the SV! So it's not actually finished at all now, but the exterior is.
Well... finished up some final polish and tweaking with the Soleil twins, completed Argentspire at last, and wouldn't you know it? 6.7 hits the public branch, everyone gets that lovely shiny new metal, and I can publish uploads again! @Fractalite - I know you were waiting on the Soleil in particular
Holy crap, awesome design Steve! And I love that you are Canadian. Like the Finns here, you are all most welcome and spam away! Yes! I agree! Thank you for the sound critique. I have been thinking about too. In addition to the RCS I have also been annoyed with the lateral thrust - it is not quite up to my standards... Hmmmmmm... will have to ponder... No, I either build from a purely utilitarian style(usually my mining HV's) and or just let the building flow through me - I enjoy the chance to express myself. Thank you! Thumbs up and subb'd. I am eager to try them! Argentspire is one of those bases that I am going to spawn, I am just not quite sure how to do it in Survival. Either try to strip a few civvy POI's in the beginning, or, once I am inundated with resources, spawn it in splashing, "I am Human hear me roar!" fashion on Masperon's Moon.... or maybe Aitis or Aestus. Also; beautiful work on the pictures for each ship - I like how you positioned them for the upload image.
I was curious about this ship; which is the front and which is the back? I assume the narrower/slendor is the front but it is hard to tell. Also, I note the painted lines - some pointing or indicating the center line(do that m'self sometimes) but what are the others? Reminders for the coloring?
Thanks all for the encouragement. @Scoob I generally have an idea of what I want to do and will that sketch out (on graph paper) to some degree and from that build the outline. But after that it all goes to hell as I build out the inside and try to stay within the initial constraints. Never happens! @Starwing6 Yeeeep, good ol' Canadian boy here. I'll have to go with one out of two on that, everybody loves the Hip! And that Gryphon looks a beast! @Kieve Love the twins and updated 'Spire. Like @Fractalite the spire may very well join me on the next planet I harass. I can only take the time to build 200k + bases on occasion. It's a time suck! Full day of work for me today so my brain will just keep harassing me on my design and layout while I try to deal with realtors. Play hard, IJS out!
I do (very) rough sketches - atleast for the bigger builds. Just to get some idea about the shape I'm going for and maybe the proportions. But not really any more specific than that - I play around with the actual block shapes and such in the game. You've probably have enough of my CV already - but here it is once again. My skecth for the heavy mining barge Ilmarinen. It came out pretty much as I planned it. Just slightly bigger. Glass is the nose, yes. All I can say to defend myself is that it's still WIP Im bit worried that the ship is starting to look like 'Spaceball 1'... or is that a good thing? Don't know yet! It's asymmetrical build and everything is pretty much off-center. So I've just marked center points for each of the different sections to make it easier & faster to use symmetry tool. Yellow ones were just to align some thruster setups - but I scrapped that idea.
