Which would still get the same limitations problem: using the small blocks rely on a voxel grid of max 200-ish blocks in 3 axis. What could be possible would be to simply make a "base" core for the smaller blocks to allow for more details, but still builds limited to 200 x 200 x 200 blocks. Alowing subdivision of the CV voxel grid would multiply the max block count by 64 (4x4x4).
Yeah... BA/CV max size would have to be increased 4x as well. Don't want to ruin big builds over a love of tiny details. Size-wise, this wouldn't change everything though, since Large blocks would be occupying 4x-cubic instead of 1x cubic.
If they can make a "merge blocks" function, like is mentioned in the relevant thread, then maybe they could also make a "merge buildings" since merging blocks would lower the overall count. Hummel and some players mentioned the need to not go too far from the present damage model, and merged blocks should revert to their original, "un-merged" state when damaged / destroyed, to prevent making huge parts of builds disappear suddenly.
Damage could be shown as Plasma fire or escaping smoke for example (some damage decals could work as well.). No need to de-merge the whole ship and slow down the game just because some light damage. Sorry for the off topic talk. I'm going back to build ships now.
It seems to me that un-merging damaged blocks would require that the game internally maintain two models of a thing in order to record block damage. In any case, it seems computationally heavy. There are doubtless many ways to handle damage in merged structures - finding one that wouldn't piss off too many people is the real challenge.
Sure, but that was discussed in more details on the relevant thread. I only made a small reference here. I don't see how they could allow SV blocks in the CV voxel grid.
Made considerable progress on "Project Synthesis" last night. Keeping this under wraps for now (no screens yet), but results are promising! ...I may end up doing a whole line of these. Trick is keeping things modular enough to be versatile - but on the bright side, I might end up with the workshop equivalent of those modular/mix&match toy lines. XD
So you are using a CV hull with modular SV "rooms" for detail? (same principal, and already been done).
Weren't smaller blocks for CVs and BAs part of the system in the dim distant past? I seem to recall some unhappiness over the change.
Nope. And really, you don't have to keep guessing. You'll see eventually, when Synthesis is at a point I feel I can call "presentable." As for what's been thought of / done... I really don't care one way or the other. I'm not interested in one-up games or intellectual superiority contests, I'm just trying to build something neat. It's not a competition, there are no prizes handed out for "who thought of what first." If you've got some grand scheme to glue a sexy SV to a CV chassis, then do that. Maybe you'll find some inspiration in AT Myriad's workshop, he's got quite a few awesome designs in that vein already.
Ever have that moment when engineering/designing when you need to do one section to do another, but to do that you need to do x, etc? I'm having that between actual EGS design, steam uploads n art, UrgiCorp design sheet..ahah.. design, artwork for that, jumped to artwork for signature, then onto making a custom workshop icon and finally that has now devolved into pixel editing. Ah how the mighty have fallen, back to roots!
Oh hell yes. I run into that just doing the "BP Factory" stats window screenshots, because I'm stupid and fussy about making sure the BP thumbnail matches what's on the worksup upload. ...And then I'll give it the last once-over, find a single block I forgot to paint, overwrite/update the BP, which overwrites thumbnail, which... Yes, Theurgist, I know that frustration quite well indeed. Though I do look forward to the results of this upcoming "signature." I feel like the odd man out sometimes for actually bothering with one.
yeah! (my Lagrange-SV) 3 updates every half an hour the next real change 2 days later, again 3 updates... Me too... I'm happy to get something done, making thumbnail, uploading pics, then as I'm happy, make another Walk through the ship.... ARGH!!!!! and seeing some ... (even if only minor) bug there... and... Ripping off my hair again
It's been years since my first serious Signature attempt in Earth and Beyond: And around a year or so later after I had farmed epic loot til my eyes bled: I've leveled up like a hundred times (Design-wise ^^) since then so I'm going to do better for sure. A q for you though sir; How did you get the hyperlink 'Highlights' section behind your sig that activates when you mouse-over? I was impressed, no idea how you did that lil trick. Hyperlink under image with reverse color and _?
My latest game on Akua was the second in a row where the middle part of the Titan was on top of the hill overlooking the survival shelter. I wasn't worried because in the first game the drones guarding the Titan weren't interested in me as long as I didn't approach the wreck. This time there were two cannon drones. They suddenly swooped down on the survival shelter as the capsule descended and proceeded to blast the hell out of it. That was a first. It didn't affect the start much other than shooting out half of my pistol ammo and having to eat the anniversary cake.
Ok. I was not aware it became a sin against kieve to be curious about a build. SMH You know I feel exact same way. I am not here to compete, but just to make fun stuff for myself and others to enjoy. The problem I have with your statement here is that its a bold faced lie. Allow me to quote you just a couple pages ago. Claiming you had a "stroke of genius" moment about how to build something in game infers that whatever you are doing has not been done before, or that no one else was (to put this in your own words) "thinking outside of the box" to come up with this idea. Hence my questioning. The thing is you are being quite braggart with that statement and from a psychological perspective people who brag about having "strokes of genius" moments or make an attempt to talk themselves up by "how insane" they are in fact quite competitive. If you truly did not care about competition you would not come to the forums to brag about a project, gloating about your ability do what has not been done. If you truly did not care about "intellectual superiorty contests" you would not have brought to the worlds attention that I used the improper word in a sentence, which you did.
It also happened to me...and I had only a pistol....Troopers dropped... I tried to skate in the wreck of Titan GOOGLE translate
I really think that statements like this are a step too far and not appropriate for this forum. Assuming someone else's thought processes is always dangerous. Making slurs against someone's character is unpleasant and completely out of place here. Let's just talk about what we did today on Empyrion and applaud everyone's efforts in innovation and creativity, I know I'm looking forward to the next big thing from Kieve, Pyston and many others.
