It's not on you matey, it's my badly worded post that's to blame... It could easily be read either way You landed it, that's what counts. You can pick up your backpack later, but retrieving half a ship from orbit is an entirely different matter!
I have a whole bunch of projects lined up so of course I worked on none of them yesterday. Started experimenting with this....thing. Not sure what it's going to be yet. Maybe a base. Maybe a space station. I was thinking of making landing spots along the strips, maybe landing pads in the towers themselves, and inside the structure with access through the hangar doors or through a hole in the roof. It will fit SVs but it's not really big enough for CVs unless they're really really small. And I've been tinkering with this EvE Rifter adaptation. It still needs a bunch of work to the very cramped interior.
For the last couple of weeks, I've been working on my super carrier. A military mobile base based on a design I came up with and posted a picture of a while ago. It's a bit of a beast and I'm starting to think I've been a bit too ambitious, but it's starting to take shape, slowly. Side view Front view Spoiler: Picture heavy post! Approaching the fighter launch tube From launch tube there is the entrance onto the flight deck Here is the flight deck, with space for 3 Heavy SVs (more than I can find in the workshop) and probably about 20 mid sized SVs. To clarify, at the bottom of the picture is the grey roof of the launch tube, with the hangar door opening beneath the glass walkway The central column houses a flight deck control centre, with all necessities for pilots arriving from missions needing repairs, medics... toilet etc. Two of the corners (green and light brown) are the administrative centres for human and alien crew The other two corners are the toilet / shower block and a small collection of facilities, including an advanced constructor. From the central column there is an elevator up to the glass walkway The elevator goes down to engineering, a tactical bridge and an armoury / barracks section, with briefing room. The glass walkway leads back to officers quarters, a large growing plot area, and the fore bridge I cannot include all the pictures in one post (limit of ten) so part two will follow
Looking at this I have a mental image of this apple-core remnant of Akua left.. everything else stripped but for a thin toroid from pole to pole.. a despondent looking Crawler shuffling around on one and a confused Talon Guardian on the other. Seriously huge ship dude. Just wow.
My super carrier "Legatus Praetor", a work in progress part 2. Spoiler: Another picture heavy post! The glass walkway leads to the officers quarters which overlooks the growing area The officers quarters corridor, showing the officers rank and assignment outside each door Further towards the front of the ship is the fore bridge, with function rooms and sleeping quarters to either side From the bridge, one can take either the glass walkway back to the flight deck, or an elevator down to this network of corridors on the left of that picture is the entrance to engineering Engineering is on several levels and leads through to the tactical bridge. This bridge is protected in midships and is otherwise known as the battle bridge I'm quite proud of the display screens here Tactical then leads through to the armoury, which includes a speaking platform and seating to be used in operational briefings. The stairs lead to shared quarters for two squads of six soldiers and beneath that are quarters for an officer, and two sergeants For engineering access to all areas of the ship there are also these service tunnels (or "Jeffries Tubes") which will connect everything I still have to include a kitchen and a mess hall, possibly a separate officers mess. I will also have an infirmary. I'm not too happy with the fore bridge or with the growing plot area (which I'm not sure how to justify on a military ship), but I still have a lot of space to fill!
Hehe, yes that's probably how many resources will be needed to build this thing! 'Simply strip mine one planet, completely destroy a moon and add a sprinkling of asteroids to taste' It's size class 48 so far, but obviously that will only increase.
Today I built a ship for @Fluffy 's [Challenge] Dual Small Generator CV, The Challenge One. Yes I know I suck at naming... Link to full description in Fluffy's Challenge
Siege you are the only one I know that actively considers, "Does my gigantic BA accommodate CV's?" and I love it.
*Looks at this... then looks around to my ripping the Empyrion Devs off paying only 18ish bucks for their epic game long ago... then looks back at ya & wonders if we're living on two different Earths...* Ya wanna see what Greed looks like? Research EA & Activision... Lookin good... but I dunno about "Dumbo Dome"... i'm noticing a conspicuous absence of Large Elephant Ears. Looks kinda Drone Head-ish... maybe "Drone Dome"? P.S. IMHO it's always a big act of guts using GLASS to rest big heavy delicate equipment, like Radar Dishes, onto... XD Or if it's not actually resting on Glass, I can't quite make that out in those 2 Screenies... Well... does look like a spiffy Design... & ya coulda done worse for Naming... ya coulda done "The Challenge Won", & sounded totally full of yourself. With that said, that looks like an interesting potentially feasible Starter CV. I still wonder if i'll ever someday figure out how to achieve one of my Mad Empyrion Science Goals, a "Micro CV: Gigas SV with Turrets lookin dude"... alas, building small is always a problem cause I can't help innately wanting to instead be huge, tough, brawny, & just plain powerful.
I got my CV probably finished. I hope the look compensate somewhat the fuel bill. If not I guess still can be useful as sliced up space wreck. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1222725521
The radar dishes are mounted on metal. It has been published, so you can check out the Dumbo Dome if you wish. It has a nice fly-through hangar. Engineering is in the back. Living quarters and the cockpit are in the front, which I divided into two levels. This is the upper level. And the lower level, with 2 3x3 grow pot grids. Size class 2, with all those goodies, and still under 1 kiloton for the challenge.
The additional Pics help show off its Radness. Also, i've been meaning to experiment with 'Fly Through Hangars', but keep forgetting to. That's still on my To-Do List.
After I did my first fly-through hanger on the Grouper I became a fan of them and have made it a point to install one if the overall ship design supports it.
I'll tell you a little bit: I'm not stupid!!!! If you want to say: You created STEM because I did not say anything about creating Empyrion Games itself... And that's a huge difference
Yes, be more creative! Like me. Never before has anyone heard of such a cool, unique, and clever name as this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1222168343 Gonna call the second challenge ship Beta. Because creativity!
