In between POI projects thought I would tinker with an HV tonight. The first I made was awful.... turn people to stone awful, Demons flee in terror awful, added a tenth circle of hell awful... Then I considered a re-design and inadvertently expanded on the concept of Fate. I made some progress but I am still not sure I like it. I think it is missing something and I cannot quite put my finger on what. Certainly needs a spritz more color... perhaps a thruster or two... but the chassis needs.... hrmmmm, maybe a sleeker front end? I dunno, I am sure I will figure it out tomorrow or something.
The steeply angled cockpit area ends too suddenly and steeply in my opinion. If you taper off the bodywork behind the cockpit it would fit better with the overall design.
My thought was that I expected there to be a further shape flow coming off the rear of the cockpit and angled upwards, like a pair of small vertical wings or something along those lines Quick q guys: Do gravity generators cover an entire ship? Or zone-based like sensors? [Edit: Heh, SirKnumskull seems to have a similar thought]
Gravity gens cover a spherical area about 35 blocks out. Also placement matters. Don't go sticking them on the ceiling(generally) unless you're trying to make a ring shaped object people can run around like this ship.
Siege nailed everything. Also know that you can use them in incredibly inventive ways: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=765608710 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=765608710
How do people fill out these huge CVs? Is there some prototyping tool or something? I can't imagine placing hundreds of blocks by hand.
I really like that design - reminds me of a switchblade or a set of butterfly knives. Perhaps moving the two points on the nose forward a couple more blocks to give it that sleeker overall design look and stretch it out a bit? Also like the idea about extending the cockpit back while flowing up a little, a bit like a wind-swept design.
I spent all day creating this test snippet. Loads of pain editing yaml the less colorfully documented and found colorful new words to describe some files interactions
I think the upper front could use some color personally. I do it by doing a bit, procrastinate, do a bit more, procrastinate, do some more, procrastinate, do another bit, procrastinate, rinse & repeat till done.
I decided, Why not? and posted the Cownose Ray. It's a full mobile SV base with a warp drive, hopefully folks like it. It also makes me wish we had a small gravity generator for SV's.
It's thousands, not hundreds. And yes, by hand. Largest build I ever did was overall 51k blocks overall and since that was a base that suffered from five SI disasters in total I placed a lot more than that. Some servers do allow you to use the CV gravity generator in SVs. For example Transcendence (the much smaller Oblivion follow up) has that option.
You just described my method too. It's like having an OCD Cannon. You just keep firing until it yields. I've discovered the major pain to setting up CVs. Shaping, texturing, coloring, decorating. All relative cake. Doing logic.. Oh my poor head. I got a good portion working (Seeing 6 shutters and over 30 ramps open in sync was cool!), then I decided to get fancy and make the Shutters force close if BattleMode is enabled. The end result was a sore head, and shutters which force open when battlemode is enabled. I'm thinking I should remove all the logic and start again lol I wish there was an actual IF statement. That would make it all sooo much easier.
