Ok. Do you know if (or anyone that can help) I can set up a chat sequence and a 24 hour auto restart. That's all i"m looking for.
Then there should be no problem. You can even use the EAH full version. While on the server, download and install the EAH tool. Configure the settings and start the server from EAH. For more details on the configuration like chat bot and timetable, follow the information here: https://eah.empyrion-homeworld.net/documentation
I'm still having issues getting it to connect. I have no idea how to put in the FTP information formatted correctly.
The full version has to be run on the same machine that EGS is running on. If you only have FTP access to your server, you have to run the lite version. This is what he was asking when he said "server or hosted".
Unless you are configuring a multi server configuration, you won't need the FTP. Only the Telnet needs to be configured,
I dont understand what i need to type in for game directory. I need to use FTP to connect I would assume. It's a server I rented from bluefang.
idk what the difference is. I can add custom planets to the server no problem. I just have to use FTP to transfer the files. www.bluefangsolutions.com is the site I rented it from.
You rented a game server. The hosting company set it up so you have FTP access to your filesystem areas on the server. Yours is most likely not the only EGS server on that server, and are sharing the server with potentially lots of other customers. Basically, what you're renting is part of the filesystem and the EGS process that's running, not the entire server.
I believe the lite version can be run remotely and connects via FTP and/or telnet, at the cost of reduced functionality. I highly recommend NOT using telnet remotely as telnet transmits usernames and passwords in plaintext and would leave your server open to hacking. If the lite version requires telnet to connect remotely, I'd suggest not using EAH at all.
I think I can use FTP but but im kinda a noob to this stuff so I really don't know. the tool tip says how to do it but it's confusing for someone that does not know what they are looking at
FTP is for file transfers. You need telnet to control the game server. As @dtmullican said, it's not recommended in a hosted environment. Until EAH is redesigned to be headless, there is not much that can be done.
@Jascha new feature request. A way to send a message to a user when they enter specific playfields. This could be useful for admins to give information about an area to players. Option to select which kind of message type appears on the top would also be helpful. (Green Info or Red Alert boxes.)
