I just installed Steam & Empyrion on my old backup computer - and it work perfectly & looks very nice in 1080 on 2009 rig (with most settings on 'off' of course) This machine is not intended for Emp. gaming, I was thinking to use it for Creative mode and building stuff in free time, and I won't be using them in same time (different part of my house). Is it possible to have different running versions of same game that I share on same Steam account, here on old backup computer I want to have official version - and on my better gaming/working computer I want to continue to use Experimental Empyrion version?
The beta/experimental/internal flag you set in "Library" for the game, is set on steam... so it conveys to all steam installs on any machines. So if you set it to Experimental on one, it would then update on both computers (if the computers are both running). The only way to stop it on the second computer, is to run steam in offline mode, so that it does not see the change and update. Kind of a juggle/hassle.
Thanks a lot mr.F, it helps & make sense - will try that! Hummel wrote recently not to build in Creative mode (and save blueprints) if you are playing Experimental branch, that's why I want to try to use two computers.
I think he specifically meant during Experimental updates. Like for example right now, aren't we on the same page - normal and Experimental?
Yes we are, it's 5.5.1 for both branches - that's why I want to make this to work now, when official & exp. are the same to skip on changing versions
You can just save the entire empyrion folder in the steam directory & have the public build on another part of your drive. To launch it just use the empyrion.exe in the folder or create a shortcut for it. Then have your steam setup for experimental.
Ooo... I didn't think to try that. Good tip... steam doesnt try to get its hands into that second copy and update/mangle files?
Nope steam doesn't touch it as far as updates go but I have noticed when downloading blueprints from the workshop they end up in the bp folder & I can spawn them as if I was using the game through steam.
Ok, this is GREAT - I can now even play official public 5.5.1 on multiplayer server with this old comp, and to have experimental 6.0.1 on my main computer PS. Just checked Steam settings - I do have 2 computers with same Steam account - and on one Experimental Beta option is on, and on other is not... and it is working. Steam is not 'forcing' anything on me, maybe it is meant to be like this or maybe helped me that I played with Steam offline mode when testing.
