    I'm sorry if this is a double post of any sort, but I only found some old archived threads that were related, where I cannot post.

    The issue: At launch, I immediately get a crash prompt "Empyrion - Galactic Survival has encountered an error and must close."

    (Error log says: Empyrion.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module Empyrion.exe at 0033:f5479db7.). All executables in the game folder crash immediately.

    Windows 10 Pro x64 (latest updates) / Core i7-4770K / 16 GB / GTX 1080

    I have tried amongst other tricks at least the following:
    * Different Beta versions: alpha 7, alhpa 8, Experimental, normal
    * Uninstalled the game, then installed again.
    * Changed the installation drive.
    * Launched with -lazyws option
    * Launched directly from the installation folder
    * Changed NVidia Geforce driver versions: 417.01 -> 418.81 -> 391.xx -> 418.91 (clean install)
    * Changed several NVidia settings
    * Disabled secondary monitor
    * tried force-d3d9 (with various alpha versions and the current build)
    * Disabled antivirus (Webroot)
    * Closed other services and applications (e.g. Citrix Client, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.)
    * UnInstalled Unity
    * Performed System File Check on Windows (SFC /SCANNOW)
    * Rebooted, rebooted, and rebooted.

    Somewhat recently - like a month ago - upgraded my GTX 1060 to GTX 1080. This might be related. So far all the games I usually play, have worked, however.

    NOTE: Coincidentally, my Cities Skylines game has recently stopped working also. That's also an Unity game. Same kind of crash dump, including GTX 1080 in the hex dump. sspicli.dll being the last file loaded in error.log. However, another Wasteland 2 Director's Edition - which is yet another Unity game, works fine.

    I have never played the game. I bought it when it was at Alpha 7 or 8, and now is the first time I have time to try it. But I can't find a way to launch it. I have been debugging this for hours now, with help from a friend who plays it, and surfing through Google hits for the problem. I have never had this kind of problem with other games.

    Crash dump has something related to c:\windows\system32\sspicli.dll causing Access violation. The file in question has been digitally signed by Microsoft, is dated 2018-10-28, version 10.0.17134.376, size 185 120 bytes.

    Are you using SLI? says display memory is 16gb, but i do not know off any 1080's with that amount (and i'm not very good at reading dxdiag). If so, try turning it off. Somehow since alpha 9 there is some issues with it.

    No SLI. A single GTX 1080. I think you are misinterpreting the dxdiag information. It says 8079 MB Display Memory (VRAM)

    Display Memory: 16240 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 8079 MB
    and the 1080 is listed twice, but as i said i'm not very good at reading dxdiag, and i didn't see that option in your listed attempts ;) was just trying to help

    DirectX uses shared memory as well indicate values for total memory of GPUs.

    The dedicated memory is the actual memory of the GPU

    Thanks for that information. Helps me but not the OP. Let's focus on him instead ;)

    As such, i did some googling. I'm not sure if they will help, but atleast its an effort!
    I see you have 4 internal disk drivers and 1 external, where your C, D and E drives seem rather 'full'. SSD's tend to have issues when they get near full capacity. Have you tried cleaning this up a bit? (remove restore points and the likes)
    Disable DEP (Data Execution Prevention) (might work)
    Turn pagefile down to user managed and a fixed size (i suggest 4096 should be enough combined with 16gb of memory, i myself keep it on a fast drive away from my OS drive. DO NOT turn it off completely)
    Do a memory check to see if any of your modules are faulty (not likely, but you never know)
    If you have overclocked your CPU or GPU, set it back to defaults (found nothing that indicates this but figured i would mention it)

    Also i see you added additional information to the original post. Cool!
    So you switched graphic cards to a more powerfull one. Maybe an odd toss, but is your powersupply capable of powering this? (seeing the system i would recommend 650watt or more)
    You say you have done a clean install, i assume this is done using the build in feature of Nvidia. Can you try with a third party program such as https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html. They tend to work better for me than the build in functions when i encounter driver issues.

    Thanks Caennanu for the suggestions!
    I applied the following changes, and tested after each step:

    * Uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers with DDU
    * Increased C:\ free space up to 27 GB. All other drives have even more space left.
    * Disabled any Data execution protection settings in motherboard BIOS (Asus Z97-Pro (without Wi-Fi)
    * Disabled VT-x
    * Disabled Windows 10 Data Execution Protection
    * Adjusted GPU clocks down
    * Adjusted CPU clocks down
    * Adjusted page file size down a bit (was already fixed size. I know my Windows(tm))
    * Disconnected external hard drives
    * Uninstalled Asus AI Suite III
    * Checked fonts for corruption. Deleted all Windows font cache, restarted Font Cache Service
    * PSU is 750 W. No unstability in the system with any AAA games have been detected (Witcher 3, CIvilization VI, DoS 2, ...)
    * ReInstalled Unity Editor. (Previous version was 5.0 -> updated to 5.4 -> removed completely -> ) Installed version 2018.
    * MemTest has NOT been run yet.

    Also, Terratech, which is yet another Unity Game, seems not to work. Same crash notification. It really narrows down to all my Unity games (except Wasteland 2 Director's Cut).

    Sadly, no solution to the problem has been found yet. I am going to reinstall the whole system within the next week however, as I have a bigger new SSD drive now.

    I think the key to this issue is researching "what is sspicli.dll" on google and finding out what you have done that has changed this file, such as a software change of some sort or an end result to a virus clean, I just read up a little on the file, but too much info to recite here.

    If your gonna reinstall the whole system anyway next week, try this for now, I found this on the internet, it was a working solution to some issues related to this dll file.

    This solution was aimed at a windows 7 user so you may need to slightly modify it to suit your op systems file locations.

    1. Locate the file sspicli.dll in the c:\windows\system32 folder,

    2. copy it and paste it to c:\windows\SysWOW64 folder

    3. Run CMD, type the following command

    sfc /scanfile=c:\windows\syswow64\sspicli.dll

    after the scan is complete, reboot the computer.

    And it seems just that was enough to solve the issues for many, there was no mention of putting the file back so i can only presume it creates a new one.
    Windows 10 though I have no idea if it will help this situation...

    Fairly sure a new windows installation will fix it. However it will also cause the loss of the actual issue. But i understand you're more wanting to play than to troubleshoot!

    Sorry, no resolution. I've also gone through dozens of threads considering other Unity games with the same kind of crash. I couldn't find anything that helps.

    Holy crap. I did one more search around the Internet. PROBLEM SOLVED!

    It was Citrix Workspace. Apparently there's some kind of virtual desktop display driver that interferes. I had version 1812 installed, with HDX Media Engine 2.6. Uninstalling Citrix made Empyrion and other Unity games work right away! I'm sure an older Citrix Workspace works fine, so I'm reverting back to 1810 or older.

    (Actually, just uninstalling the new citrix casting driver helps)
