If I don't kill it the first shot, I don't. Steps to Reproduce: Craft shotgun as your first weapon. Find one of those alien bugs that stun-bite. Shoot it at close range, so you one-shot kill it. When I shoot any shotgun at any NPC nothing happens. Just to ask are you both using a custom config ?
Not Zirax... the alien bugs. the little mound-shaped ones that stun-bite you early in the game. The only thing I changed was to add more start planets. Nothing else should be config'd (unless something is leftover from my A9.7 planet fiddling, but I never touched the temperate files). Let me see if I can get you a video. It was happening pretty reliably.... give me a few to find one of the little snots....
Ooops I meant to type any NPC's was looking at something else also I am trying now with all default stock configs in the configuration folder & so far no errors appear. Can you attach a save game here where it happens for you when you load into it ?
So I tried to get a video, and now it's not happening! I'll see if I can load an old copy of my game I'm playing. I'm wondering if it's something on a fresh start or something. But I saw other comments from others getting it, so we aren't making this up just to give you guys something to do now that A10 is release.
@Pantera I have sent my report with the CoQ&Mail and included Log and a Screenshot of the Console showing for each killed Bug a Null reference... Afterwards I cleaned cache, restarted game hunted next Alien Insect and got next CoQ

Thanks for emailing the log I have it I need to be able to reproduce it also though but the log does give alot of info. The screenshot doesn't really tell me anything except a exception was triggered. Ok now I can trigger it for some reason with this. It'll be debugged & examined asap. Thanks for the save & info!
Encountered this too - happens when you one-shot kill anything (Epic Sniper rifle works well for this). Just a heads up. I just encountered this when killing one of the bugs with the chainsaw, so it doesn't seem like it's only the shotgun causing it.
Magic formula for EGS bug forums: save file + video showing bug/error starting at save start location = filed/tracking and/or "will be fixed in next patch"
Correction to my previous findings: it does NOT have to be a one-shot kill. It always happens on the last hit though (even if you previously shoot the target several times). For completion: happened with Lizard Mule, Alien Insect, BA Zirax, …
Ha yes save games before a issue triggers really help alot when needed. Issue fixed in the next release. Please report back here after rechecking the issue if you have the time to let us know how it is. Thanks.
I got a CoQ when I was killing one of those, but I was using my survival tool or a pistol, but it was only that single occurance.
