I'll try to get you another sample file to play with, @Pantera
I did the "no drone" test on a server, so I'll try to get you a SP game with it.

    Give me a bit...

    @Pantera

EDIT: pausing is around 5:12 in video
You can see the survival drill wheel slowing down in several places, which always happens before it stops, but it never actually stops.

I did my level best to reproduce the pausing in first person mode. I couldn't really get the survival tool to do it in this video, but the normal drill did just after the 5 minute mark in the video. I suspect the tier of ore may make a difference in how often it happens, as when I first tested the pausing in non-drone mode, it was on a server, and I was mining Neo, and it happened very quickly. I had the devil of a time getting it to trigger in the attached.

I also don't normally start at a wreckage, but do an escape pod drop, and flip modes on the survival tool a lot before I start ground drilling. I also usually don't use the item menu, but did here to put on armor, get all the tools, and food, etc. (not recorded).

I made multiple save files in the video; I packed them all up for you to play with.

    Hope this helps....

In my SP game(s) this bug affect even the debug drill but alot less cause it have a big radius and manage to change larger chunks of terrain.
The best location to test it is on an asteroid with a T2(or T3) ore or at a very large ore deposit so you eliminate the possibility to hit stone terrain.
I did a test and reproduce it and here are the steps:
-New SP game with medium settings
-Spawn a SV with console commands from factory and got a drill from itemmenu.
-Fly to orbit and find a T2 ore asteroid.
    -Godmode and start mining.....NO BUG
-Exit game and reload it.....drill bug triggered

Also in a previous post @RazzleWin pointed out that this was happening in a very very small scale in A9.x (almost unnoticeable)
I play A9 only in experimental and i noticed it in SSOR. Some SSOR were indestructible but when i mined the stone around them and left them "floating" i manage to hit the "sweet spot" and boom....mined.

I also mentioned that i use a custom config but the only changes are alien parts stacksizes and biofuel production speed.
I will try to reproduce it with a vanilla config and i will report back.

EDIT: Same thing with vanilla files.
The only thing i didn't do in the same order as the previous steps is that i exit the game and reload it before i start mine the asteroid (i got a T1 iron one)
Oh and i didn't godmode, i gave myself an armor and a boost :)

PS: I verify the game files and they are ok. I'll try again with a clean install of the game (i will not touch the registry, only steam reinstall) and i'll report back again but it will take some time ....low inet speed

I've noticed the same thing as @rewt :
It's worst on asteroids, and especially T2 ones (Im taking a break from mining a sathium asteroid that is taking FOREVER because of the drill stops when I type this....)

The disk/dot slow down and stop spinning, just like they do when it's going to reload, which makes me wonder if that's exactly what's happening: some sort of failed/bad reload check (I'm shooting in the dark here). It's almost like it's stopping to reload, but then says "nope, I still have charge!" and keeps depleting the charge, but fails to resume drilling...

The thing only really bugs you when you stop moving and mine same spot long time. We could call it a temporary workaround to keep moving all the time, as shown in my video on page 1. As soon as i started moving, much mining progress was made. And it does seem to be worse when mining with drone.

Anyone tried CV or HV controllable mining turrets? Since you can't fly the ship while mining, it could potentially be much worse.

A 3rd note is that it didn't seem related to any ores themselves. You should see the bug if you pick any spot in the world and dig down in to the deeper stone layers, with drone ofc. Dirt/grass/sand digs fast so don't bother with that. Even the terrain can be hard to mine on alien planets.

Not always. I was mining a gold asteroid tonight, and no matter how much I moved around, it kept stopping. I would try shifting camera angle, moving a bit, clicking again... nada.

I had some lumps on the asteroid that just wouldn't go unless I hit them from the exact correct angle.

Whatever is going on, I hope we've provided enough information that it can be found and fixed quickly, because the new drilling is only faster when this locking up doesn't happen. With all the lockups I had, I finally gave up on the gold asteroid. It was just too much time/too frustrating.

While the bug can happen with any kind of material, it seems to be worse with some ores than others... or perhaps that's just me?

Or perhaps it's how long my client was running before I mined them? Who knows! :(

Ignore the radius on the debug drill cause it's ref to the t2 drill and not the epicdrill...my bad
So the only thing that is minimizing the probability for the bug to occur its the drilling power.

Fresh install (uninstall from steam and reinstall)
OFC its not a fresh fresh cause steam downloaded 9.x and then updated to 10.x

    New game with medium settings:
Same results. SP and CO-OP (but solo testing)

Now because the bug might existed in 9.x but in an unnoticeable state try to install 9.x and then update to 10.x (i might talking nonsense cause you are already doing it but still).

Anyway because the reinstall removed a few bugs that i had like map command not showing everything on orbit and other minor ones i advise everyone to do a fresh install (backup your saves to be 100% safe) :)
I have been updating empyrion with all experimentals since A4 EXP :)

A fix for this will be in the next release. Please post back here after testing it out to give feedback.

Having this issue with the drone only so far.
Happens when my drills reticle goes outside of the middle reticle of the drone. This can happen wjen close to a surface and while you aim straight ahead the drills reticle moves sideways outside of the point you aim. Then it stops drilling bit still consuming fuel.

I've encountered this problem now whilst manualy mining (no drone). Despite a possible fix in the next patch i've made a short video ...

The fix may not actually make it into the next release for now as it didn't work.
Will update again when it's ready.

    Fixed!
    Fixed!!!!!!!
    FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw this problem very badly on a particular Sath and Gold asteroid. Video clip mining the Sath (both with and without drone). No more pausing!

    Fixed!!!!!!!

    EDIT:
There may still be some pausing on the gold asteroid; but it's hardly noticable. VERY much better!

I'm seeing it still appear in some cases but not many can you check the distance you are from the ore ? 7 meters is the current max range of the Drill.
To do this try staying still then when it happens in a location don't move change to a scoped weapon & aim exactly where the drill stopped & note the distance that appears in the scope.

I will check the next time I go to one of those nodes, which may not be until tomorrow (unless you urgently need me to check it).

I thought some of the stops were due to range, as in a few cases, I got closer and it started right up (out of range). But there were some near the end of the video where I was close to the ore.

Either way, it's now *playable* whereas before, it was.... trying my patience on that node. ;)

I can still see it happening sometimes while mining neodymium with drone, but it is alot better now. I'm on experimental 2468.

Other note is that the circle is not exactly centered at the drone's middle. I wonder how the game currently detects hit from the drone to terrain, i'm guessing a cylinder-like hit but with too wide radius.

This kind of distance it stopped at:
    drill_stop.jpg

Programmatically you don't have to calculate drill max distance (7m) twice. If the blue circle is visible, then it means game already found a hit in the range and should trust it.

Not only am I not seeing any pauses but mining seems even faster (which is fine with a T2 drill, but I still think the progression is off).

There should be improvements now for the original issue reported here the drilling with the personal drone needs to be tweaked a little still also as it can still stop sometimes when in enough range of ore.
