Ok it is only a issue with the survival tool the chainsaw should provide wood logs when a tree is cut down.

Lol...it will be the first time I have built a chainsaw in a long time. I think the shotgun as Germanicus suggests is the save weight and room option. Just a note, since the survival tool's appearance in the game the chainsaw has become rather superfluous.
Exp10.6.1 Build 2687 New game, no player config, Win 7 Started new survival SP game. Worked thru starter mission. Survival Tool worked fine in Resource mode gathering Ore rocks. Fine in Salvage Mode against blocks. But in Defense mode, where it says in radial menu that it will gather Wood, it just destroys the trees without Wood Logs either dropping or going into the backpack. Checked several trees in starter zone, then spawned in Biofuel and tried a Chainsaw; chainsaw worked fine.
Playing default Survival with normal resource settings. Survival tool has given no wood from any of the 20 trees I have farmed. Standard, large trunk trees.

@All when you destroy a tree do you see any logs go into the player inventory after wards either sometimes or always ?
Using the survival tool; none ever, on the ground or in inventory regardless of tree type, and is happening through my last few new game started since 10.6 exp dropped.
There is never any wood. I have taken out half a forest with the survival tool and not a single log in the player inventory or on the ground. We get xp and nothing else.
