Those lasers deal 32 damage to shields per shot. Your problem is likely the EMP rounds... which you should be dodging. Those deal 250 per shot.
I'll second the suggestion to dodge. If you take a straight line into the POI it will eat you up. If instead, you vary your course RANDOMLY, up, then back down after they fire, left ... wait for the fire then right, etc you'll dodge the shots. Note that if you're on auto fire, YOU can't miss as the POI can't move to dodge! If you're manually firing your weapons you've got a job ahead of you. Like anything in life, the key is practice. ;-)
Thanks for the advices, @Thor'sHammer. My current SVs were made for vanilla so they became slower in RE. I'll probably need to invest in a SV designed especially for the scenario.
Yeah, I imagine so, I'm a Vanilla solo guy, one day I'll get around to joining the RE crowd ... Have always played solo. I think running into a base designed to be taken out by a group would be terrifying to a solo guy! LOL
Cool. Unfortunately I had to give up playing RE for now. The scenario truly enriches the game and take it to a new level. But I realized I'm a guy who likes to play in peace, to contemplate and gather resources, occasionally engage combat. I'm surely not a relentless FPS player. So I got back to Project Eden which makes me feel less stressed out. Haha
Don't forget you can always go to a friendly territory like trader or polaris where not much will bother you. Project Eden is designed so you can pick your difficulty, and that does carry over into Reforged as well. My brother goes straight to trader territory every time as soon as we have a warp CV and enough pentaxid to make the trip. That will allow you to build up and give you hundreds of systems to mine and live on in relative peace.
You sound like me! I haven't tried Project Eden or RE yet tho'. I'll look into it soon, feel another game coming on me ... HA! That's a great idea! Think I'll try that.
I can't remember the last time I used a vehicle to siege a facility, and I've yet to find one I can't tunnel under, crack a shield with a few explosive charges, and a floor block with maybe one more. The alien guns are simply too OP'd to bother with, so sapping will remain the best, most effective tactic, likely forever. Now there have been times were I wasn't really given much of a choice - lucky shot on an unarmored, shieldless scout SV or air-born HV, and I've had to bail out of the falling wreckage, find cover behind enemy lines, and use a plasma cannon or RPG to clear a path through enemies, basically ignoring bases until I can find a good place to dig in, and leave my downed vessel as a distraction for the turrets.
I'm definitely in the "mine under" camp, my preferred method. But ... at least on the Starter planet there are Zirax bases that are pretty simple Spoiler: Discusses base killing (I'm looking at YOU Defence Level 1) that the Core is simply dead center. Fly over and drill down with a Gatling, land on top, kill a few remaining soldiers, Done. MUCH less fuss. The guns can't get you if you approach at altitude, line up directly above and they can't elevate to hit you. Also works for more advanced bases but, of course, you sacrifice the turrets, which are pretty valuable as you progress. I like the "leave the ship" bit, very clever.
So, the Drone Base on the Temperate Starter Planet is no longer shielded. I attacked it and made my way to the Core but it was surrounded by Hardened Steel and Armored Glass Blocks which my 16 Explosives could not Destroy. Is there a Switch or something to Destroy the Core or do i need to bring more Explosives? Or is there some other Trick to destroy the walls faster?
Use ship weapons. Poke a hole in a straight line to the core from a safe position outside. I used something like this :
