There is a small "pilot mode" effect when driving a vessel with pilot mode off. I don't remember this being the case in previous versions. The ship's direction is "lagging" behind the cursor when pilot mode is off. It shouldn't do this.

Link to video showing the effect:

It seems a patch note was missed out by mistake but now that you have brought this up what do you think of this as a change for vessels ?
Please try it in first person view as well as third person view in all vessel types (sv's & cv's also).

The note was just added to the patch notes "- Removed the momentum in rotation on ships as a test please try this out with all vessel types in first person view & third person view & give feedback on what you think about this change!"

If this is the result, I can flat out say I hate it, without any further testing. :)

I turn pilot mode off, because I **hate** it. I don't expect my ship to behave in any way like it's in pilot mode when I have it turned off.

I avoid driving ships in first person. The view is too constricted. I'll test it, though, just for you, Pantera, but... see previous note about not liking pilot mode and anything that smacks of it. :) If it's doing it there, don't expect me to give a positive review. :p

For people who like pilot mode, great. Flip that switch on! But if it's off, I expect it to be OFF.

(Got enough feedback from me there on it? :) )

Yeah I don't like the third person changes to ships now. I much prefer the old ship controller personally.
But the player drone is awesome (just needs autolevel on by default).

I was going to make a post about the drone changes... yeah, I like the better control, but strafing puts you on a "slant", and it never corrects back. Needs to go back to level (on planets). 100% agree with Ravien on that.

... first person in the HV doesn't have this "pilot mode" effect. No, I will not be driving in first person to get away from it... need my 3rd person fixed :p

  7. I don't like it one bit either, and I'm REALLY not a fan of things behaving differently in 1st person vs 3rd person.
What exactly is the justification for this?
Why should controls behave differently just because of the viewpoint? How does that make sense?

    Please revert this....

    Edit
To clarify, it is the 3rd person that is giving me issues, in all vessel types.
After spending some time with it all I can say to describe it is, uncomfortable.

That does not make sense. If the Drone 'Auto-Levels' all the time you will not be able to drill DOWN or UP anymore or eventually use it to build a Structure. Don't let your common sense be confused by ... others.

    To the Topic:
The HV - I have nothing else tested right now - behaves different. Not only in Terms of steering but in Truster Output as well.
The HV feels ...heavier as it actually is. Side Trust lost almost 50% Power. The HV moves up slopes sideways as if being close to be overloaded.
The other Thing is 'how to bring up the Nose'... the firmer Footing - if one can speak of it for a HV in this case - leads to not ramming into every steep slope, at least not when approached at a slow pace. Previously it was necessary to hit the arrow up key to lift the Nose of the HV up but now it seems the HV 'feels' it Way up the Steep Slope.

    As I said, its feels...different.

That's not what the drone auto level does. The drone auto level was always enabled by default but in 1.7 it is now disabled by default. Hit the O key to swap modes but it really should default to auto level on like it does in 1.6. The drone auto level still allows you to look up and down, it just locks your roll to the planet surface.

Ships now behave as if they were cruising through molasse, either in planets or space, either SVs or CVs or HVs and it does not make any difference how many RCSs or how many Thrusters or how much cargo, in fact it behaves the exact same way if the Mass/Volume or CPU were off

This is detrimental to any expert builder as any brick will fly the same, the speed limit is already enough I would say....
