Imagine for a moment that you CAN'T shove 42 RCS2's and 87 thrusters into a design. I know, I know, take a moment. Breathe. What would you build? Let's say 20 thrusters (total), 4 RCSes, and the current weapon and device limits. Go! --Brian
If I only have 1 RCS then can I get a few extra thrusters? SS Polygon (flies like a brick . . . probably . . .) is nearing "design phase" (meaning it is nearly time to tear it all down and rebuild it from scratch with the insights of building it this way in the first place!) Well, at least it CAN get off the ground! Having now put together this brick, I can see that . . . there IS definitely a certain minimum size for a CV (and this I think is not too much in excess of it, maybe one row of height, but maybe 2 length and width. ADDIT: LOL! I had to bust out the ceiling and wall on my bunker/base to finish building the damn thing!
People use, like, DOZENS. I'm trying to 'feel out' what it might be like if we are block-limited on the propulsion blocks. Expsure doesn't matter, just wondering what people would do in this (somewhat likely) situation. Also, in PvE, you may be resource-constrained where mounting 80 RCS's and 120 thrusters just isn't possible. --Brian
Is this for specific types of craft? How about this HV I designed a few weeks back? Furetto Ricco, based on my Furetto Mk0 racing HV body. This is the Mk0 btw: (You might notice that the Furetto is technically asymmetric... there is the fuel tank on one side of the pilots seat, and two RCS on the other side. I deliberately checked the weight of every component so that I could make sure it would balance. For example, the Fuel Tank weighs twice as much as the RCS, so it was easy to fit the same weight into the same size area.)
Interesting. Most any/all of the vessels I have that fall into that category would be pretty small... but I'll check through my BPs and see if I've built anything else like that. I'll be very surprised if I have a CV with that few RCS and thrusters!
That's exactly why I bring it up. Over in PvE land. with all the setting on hard, our supplies would be wiped out, and we MIGHT get a single vessel operational. My 'Salute' class "cruiser" has 12 thrusters and 4 RCS's, for example.
This CV (on a custom build platform) has 18 thrusters and 1 RCS. Built purposely to fly like a brick and handle like a sedated whale. It houses my base with crafting area, garden and two hangars for (smallish) SVs. The platform has all the turrets. This is not the very last version, but I don't have a better picture.
Twenty thrusters, two RCS, six gatling cannons, four ammo boxes, two fuel tanks, one generator, one oxygen tank. Cheap, quick to build, and no slouch either... though you might want to remove a couple of the main thrusters for atmo as otherwise power usage is in the 120% range. Oh, and it's an EVEN block design! :O Haven't decided on a manufacturer for it yet so it's not on the Steam workshop, but the BP is attached. Thanks for a fun idea, it's given me some nice insights and plans for going forward!
A lot of my builds are within those limits. Everything below is at (or below) the limits you set. HV Hover Bike HV Lancer SV U-Fighter SV-Wasp T1 SV-Wasp T2 REALLY under the limits you set. (4-6 thrusters and 1 RCS) HV-AABMV SV-AABMV SV Rocket Bike CV Cube CV Jumping Jack Skeleton
All of my bases are under that limit. But seriously, almost all of my builds are under that, especially if you are talking 20 medium thrusters, because I typically use about 18-36 directionals for a build. Many of them also don't need 4 RCS, sometimes I might need 2. The ones below are all from my workshop. HVs (prior to new engines) SVs (prior to weapon limits, but obviously easy to just delete weapons) CV
Yeah I'm with Lift Pizza: with enough thruster attitude control I think probably 1 RCS is enough. I am using I think 5 on my first CV but every other ship I've made had one RCS.
I've tweaked my previous entry and managed to add another two RCS, two extra ammo boxes, and another generator so it doesn't redline. Post is in the SV thread here
This one still meets your challenge. =) http://empyriononline.com/threads/the-ship-sharing-thread.805/page-29#post-62308 But I made a prettier and smaller one now and don't use this one anymore.
My brick made it to Masperon and I made it a nice base there in a swamp. Gathered a few thousand zascosium, fixed up the base and flew it back to Akua to get more iron and magnesium and stuff!
