thats awesome! are you seeing it in proper 3d? like with a slightly different perspective for each eye? or is it the same image copied for both eyes?

    It's proper 3D.

The little Velociraptor (spelling?) dinosaurs actually look pretty small in 3D compared to 2D

    This looks really cool.

I am attempting to get this working too, but so far all I get is "OpenVR Runtime init failed", then I am informed that the game crashed :(
I created the profile from the Firewatch profile, as that uses the Unity Game Engine. As an educated guess, it could be failing due to using different versions of the engine.

EDIT: I just tried it in Osiris (Unity engine) and it worked perfectly. In fact, I was amazed how excellent it is in game. Very, very playable. Only issue that game does have, is not being able to see all of the menu interface, as you seem to be zoomed right in. (edit - I just found out you use the middle mouse button to put the game into 2D mode, so that you can view menus)
I did have the same error as above when running Osiris, which I solved by rebooting the computer. I'll see if that will work for Empyrion.

EDIT: I got it to work in Empyrion :)
It looks like the reboot I made to get it to work for Osiris may have also fixed the issue for Empyrion.

I did delete and recreate the Empyrion profile, this time using the Osiris profile created by SpinalTom. For anyone not familiar with getting user created profiles (Custom Profile), you search for the game's name from Cloud Profiles in the vorpX Config tool.
It's nowhere near as good in Empyrion as it is in Osiris. There may be other things that need to be changed. I will have a tinker :)

Pleased you got it working. I used the 7 Days To Die profile - also a unity game.

I was thinking of buying Osiris - if I do, I will give it a go.

The only problem I had with Empyrion was the FoV being too low, resulting in the view appearing too "zoomed-in". For that reason, I found it OK to play in short sessions, but not for too long.

Is there any more information regarding Virtual Reality and Empyrion?

I'm planning to purchase a VR system in the coming month(s) and I'm trying to decide between Vive and Oculus.

Nothing that I know of champ, I dunno if the devs have ever tested any VR equipment at the studio, be a nice addition though.

    Thanks for following up.

I'm definitely getting a VR rig and I'll certainly still be playing EGS. Maybe one day I can VR EGS.

I have a HTV Vive, I would love to see VR come to this game, but under no illusion that this will take a lot of re-writing of the game and I'm sure most people would prefer them to focus on the items they listed in the recent survey rather than loose half a year+ to VR development.

The game doesn't have controller support at present so to use the touch controllers would be a big hurdle, I think using a Keyboard and mouse the the headset will defeat the point.

It would be amazing to play it in VR - a bit of dream with a game so detailed and requiring more controls than most.

I see that SteamVR Background pictures are 8192 x 4096 resolution 360 degree images. I wonder if there's a good way to stitch together screenshots from EGS into this spherical format, or if support in the software would be needed?

Does anybody know if there's a way to currently use a VR headset with Empyrion? I'm planning on buying a headset soon and I wanted to pick one that would be compatible if there's one that works with it. Also if you have experience with headsets which ones do you prefer? I'm really looking at getting either the Samsung or the Lenovo headsets that are mixed reality, versus getting an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

Yes. You can use VorpX and a "7 Days to Die" profile. You will be able to look around, but your controllers will not work. Nothing is mapped to them. You'd have to use the keyboard. You'll also have a limited field of view.

I have an HTC Vive and right now I wouldn't buy VorpX. I did to experience what the others have. Its not worth $40 just to look around.

There are some really neat games that I'd point the Empyrion Devs to if they're looking for some VR GUI ideas. For instance, in the Fallout 4 VR version, when you're wearing a battlesuit, it actually shows the helmet around you will extra indicators. And in the Star Trek Bridge Crew game, the Captain's chair has functional buttons and controls that you can interact with.

As for your second question, I've not been able to try an Occulus Rift, but I can say that Room Scale setup with an HTC Vive is really easy. I use two tripods to place the sensors. I also appreciate the strong integration between Steam and the HTC Vive.

Have the devs considered or are planning too implement this, the game is so beautiful now and I can only imagine it in VR. Or is this a bad idea

Hey, is there an update to this? Is anyone playing the game in VR? How does it look? What it takes to setup?

I fired it up with VorpX many months ago. You can't really play because you still need the keyboard and mouse. But if you want to get to a location normally and then look around in VR, that was possible, if I remember correctly.
