Worked on making some Polaris mines: They will have a trader that sells ore (depending on the type of mine): Of course if you're not on friendly terms with Polaris, you can raid the mine for the ore instead: The drill head: The area while I was working on each mine. 1 mine for each type of ore, with the appropriate ore manually placed in the cargo boxes using an admin core and a separate trader for each one:
I thought I was in the home stretch of paint and texture work on the Pelican CV refit. Then it suddenly occurred to me that with the change of thrusters to get under 7500 CPU, the unlock had been raised a few levels. Suddenly I was asking myself why I was not using better fuel tanks too? It makes the CV a little heavier, but I should still be able to lift off with the holds full of promethium even in 2.0 g--if my math is correct.
Playing around with making a volcanic moon based on Jupiter's moon Io. Just experimenting with textures and terrain. This will be one of the custom moon types for gas giants and maybe ice giants too. Hopefully I can get it finished on the weekend.
While putting together stuff for the CV I gave life and purpose back to the Derelict Base which I use on the Arid Starter Planet. Texturing, replacing destructed blocks, installing new Systems and all while collecting Ore, process it and loot POI's.
It's been a while since I posted an update on the Red Millenium (Class 48 now). Mainly because I hadn't had any time to work on it for the last 2 months, but i'm back in action now. So far, I've done half of another deck. This time it's the science deck. This here is one of the smaller mess halls, for the science crew and those operating in the Combat bridge. Another server room. When we get CPU added i'm sure this room will actually be functional, assuming you'll be able to expand your CPU limits with special blocks. And this one is one of the labs with an observation room. Still so much empty space inside this ship...
Cool idea with the Server room, i'd probably had made it 2 blocks high, and then those angled ceiling, just in case But hey, that's a critic on a very high Level, while appreciating your way-ahead-planing for the future!
Heh, yes, sometimes I think it'd be nice to take fire through a mountain for old times sake lol One thing I do miss from older game versions was the amount of damage certain weapons did to the terrain, as it seems to be much lessened now. I recall that before HV-mounted drills were a thing, SV's with many Rocket Launchers or Plasmas were the "drill" of choice. Just for making holes though, no actual mining ability. I don't know if this is still possible, but many a time I've been fleeing a Drone and seen its shots do no terrain damage, despite the playfield being PvP. Back then, it must have been late Alpha 3 through Alpha 5 possibly 6, I was quite into tweaking Drones and Drone responses. My favourite was setting near-infinite Drone replacements when those around a POI were destroyed. I recall a lucky spawn where a second POI spawned near one of the Titan Wreck sections I planned to take over - this was very early game. With my tweaks this was impossible on foot due to the regular Drone replacements and even more Drones being "pulled" from the nearby other POI. Add to that a Drone base no more than a kilometre away and the replacements arrived fast. After abandoning any attempt to take the POI on foot, I established a small base not too far away from which to plan my assault. I returned with ever more heavily armed HV's until I eventually took over the Titan wreck section and the nearby second POI, suppressing their Drone reinforcements. Due to the amount of extra terrain damage weapons did back then, as per my earlier point, the area around these POIs' - especially the Titan section - was pock-marked with craters and damaged terrain, enough to make walking a problem, as well as a couple of my prior HV hulks. The terrain really showed the struggle that'd occurred near those POI's and I thought it was dead cool, seeing the scars of the conflict preserved like that. Note: I did various tweaks at the time to ensure a higher Drone presence, Drone waves that scaled up with tougher Drones appearing every few waves as well as ensuring that the starting planet playfield was always set to PvP so terrain damage would occur. Fun times and I suspect I was a LOT better at combat back then lol. Perhaps with Alpha 10 I'll return to my Drone tweaking roots and start making some epic starter planet encounters again...I've not done that for ages now. Scoob.
i know what you mean, in my alpha 3 game even a single rocket drone left a small crater while i was gathering ressources. later a plant monster felt into that hole - two things i miss in current versions =)
Good stuff! I love seeing what kind of planets you come up with. It's going to be very useful for the game further down the road, too.
I'm still plugging away at Nexus Station. I haven't had much time to work on it the past couple days so I've only gotten a little bit done. I moved the elevators so they come out in a corner in the subway station instead of the middle of the platform. That opened up the elevator towers leaving a lot of empty space in the middle of them. I'm trying to decide if I should put a couple residential apartments there of if I should have a multi-level commercial space that's open down the middle. Spoiler Subway station, with deco now Elevator tower. Don't know what I'm going to put here yet, apartments or commercial space. Reception area at the bottom of the elevators. I've also been working on the other four spires under the station to revamp the deco. I turned one level into an office space with a couple private offices, some cubicles, and a meeting table. I haven't had a chance to fully decorate all the rooms yet but just to give you a general idea of the changes.... Spoiler Before: After: I figure I'll have to update the residential areas as well to match the new aesthetic. I'm going to update the air traffic control towers a bit too.
Thank you! Still got a long ways to go. That thing is going to be even more awesome than it already is.
Built a pair of Hydroponics bays on the Millenium today, along with accompanying deco and rooms, that include a Quality Assessment and R&D lab each and a maintenance bay for the "Harvester" that "runs" on rails on the ceiling to tend to the crops below. (Obviously doesn't move) Also made some generic labs and one Quantum-something lab. Let's go with... "quantum lensing research". Why a private sector warship needs 2 industrial farms and an entire deck devoted to sciency stuff, I dunno. Here's one of the labs attached to a Hydroponics Bay (farm) And this is one of the Harvesters in its maintenance bay at the opposite end of Hydroponics. There are no lights on this deck yet, so the only illumination are the grow lights and my suit light. This is a Harvester in action (sort of) in the second Hydroponics bay. And this is the uhh... "Quantum Lensing Research" Laboratory. It has a sealed room off the side with a observation window and other stuff that you'd expect in a lab dealing with highly radioactive doodads.
Idea: Farms for self feeding of significant numbers of Crew for extended voyages & maybe spoiled food recycled into Biofuel, & Sciency Stuff cause this Ship may have one of its jobs be to do Science related stuff in hostile space that'd be suicide for a Science Ship to try to operate in.
short question: Do you remember whats the max. amount you can type into playfield.yaml for drones in alpha 3?
Sorry, my memory is mush on this subject. Plus I don't have my notes any more from when I was actively tweaking. Scoob.
I put a garden in my hospital CV, except it wasn't some well done hydroponics. Figured that sometimes plants and gardens are therapy, so the room with grow lights is right off the hospital facility to assist with the mental health of staff and patients alike.
Lovely spot for a vacation home: There's some lava tube caves here. Nothing in them, just for show. I might add some ore to them though. Custom craters and plumes: I wanted to keep the feeling of a desolate moon, so there are no non-natural POIs and just a few golems for native wildlife. This moon is a good source of Magnesium and Neodymium in the outer solar system.
