Changed the arms of the shipyard today, also cut the wings off the Millenium's engine pods in order for it to fit into shipyard. It also makes it look better. Those big wings didn't look quite right. Added several suspended landing platforms for loading and unloading docked ships. Attached the first SV hangar to the shipyard. Needs alterations on the exterior as well as the landing apron in front of it. These are the new arms. They reach right over the main body of the ship. And those are the suspended platforms. And the SV hangar. There'll be 4 of them on this side. Though I think i'll move them further out away from the arms. There'll be work arms, cranes and docking clamps on top of them at some point along with the usual ventilation ducts, pipes and other industrial doo-dads.
The evolution of my Cassowary. In alpha 6, it was the little tank that could. Along the way changes in the game turned it into a tin coffin. In alpha 9, I tried to resurrect it by adding 3 blocks to the depth, moving the cockpit back and adding another layer to the window. As long alpha 10 doesn't throw in any new major surprises, looks like I will be bumping that up another block to the depth to add space for shield generator. Actual shield generator not included as the Cassowary is not supposed to require erestrum and zascosium to build, but pentaxid tank is included as that does not require those ores. Workshop model not updated yet as alpha 10 is still in experimental, though I did decide to put some of the major colors back.
@Vermillion Love your, rather monstrous, build..shaped up nicely Isn't it normally the other way around how ship building works? I mean, building FIRST the Dock and SECOND the Ship?
Wasn't that always the case since they were invented? SP don't have to change "slots" or activate CP to access the Drills so the are positioned into flight direction... at least so I believe

Ever looked up spawn docks? Most (not all) that are labeld BIG, XL, hughe, etc... are not even large enough to spawn my 'small CV's that are class 4-6 Dont get me started on so called 'spawndocks' (aka Plattform) for (my) Medium ships ('class' 7 - 30) or even BIG ships…
Spawn-Docks? Nope, had no need for such. ... well I think to remember some posts about dimensions needed to spawn those "small" Vessels. I also remember having seen larger Space Docks - one of them shown by @Jenniphurr - https://empyriononline.com/threads/what-did-you-do-in-empyrion-today.2826/page-774#post-283998
Yes, no. I was actually talking about docks (aka plattform) where one could spawn a cv if that setting was/were active. So, everything 'rounded' can not be counted in this 'scenario'. Neither (either of both of) jenn's docks, nor Vermillion's one he's working at. Dont forget about @Siege Inc.'s nexus space port, awesome and huughe.. but cannot be used to actualy spawn a small CV. (Anything up to 100-150m length.)
There are some very beautiful docks on the workshop that could not be used because gaps are a no go too. It had to be a solid platform underneath, specifically underneath. While the spawning rule was enforced in alpha 7, I did experiment with a non-solid platform using gaps to save on size class and/or materials..... And while my overall WIP are a long ways from completion, my CV "pads" are planned at 25 x 40, 50 x 80 and one more as big as needed. Yes, I have a CV that I will build first in creative before I build the accompanying spacedock, because the size of the required spacedock will be determined by the final size of the CV. By the way, those are measurements in blocks, so 50 x 80 meters and 100 x 160 meters. Originally my "small" CV pad was going to be 21 x 35 (my Nymph Rest BA on the workshop still has this size pad), but as they keep adding stuff like shield generators I thought I would reassess my overall plan. This then reflects in my CV. For example, most of my starting CV are smaller than 21 x 35 (42 x 70 meters), as it easier to get my CV "spawn" lined up over the pad with a little wiggle room to work with.
Today I played a bit around with my SV and its role to transport stuff from POI's towards my Base. Originally the BP calls for 160 tons each in both CC with an empty weight of the SV of 51 ton's. So the first haul gave it a lift off weight of about 384 tons. The second Haul was to a "Unknown Structure" which was close to my Starter Base and caused me to laugh when I opened the red Container inside--> My first thought was "How the Hell should one carry that away?" So I flew my SV there and loaded up all I could...even the Ammo Box got its share and my own Backpack. Lift of Weight --> Maneuverability: Abyssal but at least it was still flyable After landing I added one more downward Thruster
I've updated the T4-Cutter to have a shield generator, alongside some small improvements elsewhere. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1761716895 My favourite CV just became even more.. Favourite.
It was the improved flight controls that are bringing me back. One simple change made flying go from boring to being a ton of fun. I've had so much fun racing through an asteroid field with it already.
After taking every PoI on the planet - successful test of the new SV - you can have shields, warp, and style. https://i.imgur.com/Xm63fLG.png
Weird usually I can share links as is, I made it public. Hope that helps. Empyrion ae10 https://imgur.com/gallery/Xm63fLG
