Sorry for posting a new topic, but I don't know what to do about this. I have been playing and enjoying this wonderful game for over two years but now it has take an a turn for the worse. When I start a new game, I crash land as normal,. but when I move towards a lake on the starter planet, the water turns into sand. From a distance, all looks normal but as I approach, the sand just extends until I am walking on sand where the water should be. Has anyone else had this problem, what have I done wrong, and how is it solved? At the moment it renders the game largely unplayable. It has only happened with the new 12 branch, all versions. If there is anything I need to upload or send to help fix this little issue, please advise.
Is this the swamp starter world? It has dust basins that look like lakes, especially from a distance. However, it also has real lakes, if you look around for them.
it is the effect that it suppose to have. It is suppose to be deceiving which makes it interesting non the less.
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I noticed that too. There is a lot less water on the world than it looks like, but there is a decent amount.
When you walk out onto that expanse that was water and is now sand, what biome does it say you are in? (near the minimap)
Yeah, I don't believe I saw anything that looked quite like that on the swamp world. Dust bowl areas were foggy and didn't look like desert.
Can't say I have seen that on the swamp start at all. Been playing in the temp start and haven't seen anything like that in the desert. Would love to see a screen shot of where @Poyns was at while taking those other photo's but of the map itself so we can what should be there. So very strange.
Can you go into godmode to get a better perspective? That looks normal to me, but it's hard to tell from the screenshots. Remember that distant terrain is less detailed and it's normal that the shoreline can get slightly rearranged as you get closer.
It is the Earth-like starter planet. I have only just started the game so I've not got an SV yet. Also note that although I set it to make the starter planet medium, the game has created a very large planet for reasons best known to itself.
This looks like a bug to me. In the first shot, it says "shallow water". Now it's possible that you are in super shallow water, but I think that if you went further out it would say "lake" or "deep water".
I wonder if when the game randomly generated the planet, the water level is actually set below the level of the lake floor. Did you trying digging down to see if you can find water?
Also, have you tried to see if you can breathe helmet off in the middle of it? Or checked if a water generator actually works? Maybe it is just a graphical glitch and the game actually thinks the water is there?
Ah I see what happened. You are using a custom planet, that's why you are having these problems. It looks like the planet was generated without water, which in of itself is not a bug but rather based on the settings of the planet itself. What scenario are you using?
Looking at the screenshots of the planet's surface map, it looks like the planet generated without water since the planet map shows the place where the water should be as sand. Some kind of one-in-a-million generation bug or a custom scenario. What's the Seed? And does this happen in other savegames?
