Build: v1.0.3047 Mode: Survival Mode: Multiplayer SERVER NAME: Eleon Official (Default MP Scenario) SEED-ID: N/A If applicable: MODIFIED PLAYFIELDS: (unknown) Reproducibility: always Severity: annoying Type: Farming Summary: Plant growth time not working as noted in plant description Description: If you have a plant pot and put in a plant (and reading it's description e.g. growth time 145 min) you would expect the plant has harvestable fruits after that time. But in most cases the time frame until the plant has fruits is way greater. E.g. spawned a new CV yesterday evening, filled the plant pots (growth light is on, room has O2 - all other conditions for growth are met). As expected all plants are in sprout state initially. Logged off. Login after 8 hours. All plants are still in sprout state, although 8 hours real time have passed. Literally you must stay next to the plants and "watch them grow" to get the growth times being noted in the description. Steps to Reproduce: - setup a farm with plant pots and put in a sprout and note the given growth time and current time of the day - logoff or travel away from the farm (>2km) and do something in game (collect resources, explore, raid,...) - come back to your farm after the growth time has passed - plant do not have collectable fruits The problem also exists in a different form in single player. I will create a separate issue for this.
Build: v1.0.3047 Mode: Survival Mode: Single Player SERVER NAME: N/A SEED-ID: 770777 If applicable: MODIFIED PLAYFIELDS: N/A Reproducibility: always Severity: annoying Type: Farming Summary: Plant growth time not working as noted in plant description Description: If you have a plant pot and put in a plant (and reading it's description e.g. growth time 145 min) you would expect the plant has harvestable fruits after that time. But in most cases the time frame until the plant has fruits is way greater. Steps to Reproduce: - setup a farm with plant pots and put in a sprout and note the given growth time and current time of the day - travel away from the farm (>2km) and do something in game (collect resources, explore, raid,...) - but stay on the same playfield - come back to your farm after the growth time has passed - plants do not have collectable fruits More information that shows the problem quite obviously, when doing these steps: - open the console and active debug info - plant a new plant inspect it with debug info - you will see a counter going backward til the plant reaches a new growth stage (e.g. 2100) - note the value of this counter and start a stop watch - travel away from your farm until you are so far away that you can no longer see your farm and wait 5 minutes - now go back to your farm and check the counter on the plant using the debug info - using your stop watch and the noted counter value when you left the farm and calculate the value the counter should have and compare with the actual value. - the actual counter when coming back is close to the inital value (~ 2000 in our example), but should be around 1700 Probably the part of the map with the farm gets "unloaded" and then the growth counter gets lost. When coming back the growth counter gets reset to its initial value. So if you do a lot of activities away from the farm and come back regularly you won't see any plants grow because their counter gets reset all the time. - if you save the game the counter gets saved - if you leave the playfield the counter gets saved So the techniques to save the counter are present, but are not activated when staying on the same playfield and parts of the map get unloaded.
Time calculation in Empyrion is puzzling. What you described happens with the autominers and water generators/o2 dispensers. Some speculate that it is done to avoid grinding. On the other hand I think some times grinding is needed. Only the developers know for sure how time works. Without that we can not properly test it nor issue any bugs.
What are the rules for farm to grow? I understand how to build a farm. The crops grow fine if I'm standing there, afk or whatever. What are the rules that make crops grow? Have to be online? Have to be within x blocks of them? I thought I might be suffering from obsolete blocks or an old bp issue, so my far was just created from scratch as of version 1.0. Thanks!
