Would also work but force fields have a visual component while Shutter doors and ramps don't. Well, shutter doors do have a visual component, but is part of the building.

Damn, you are right about the forcefields adding to SI! Have tested them now again. Was almost sure the last time i used them, in A9 or A10, they didn't. Will have to try the possibilities in future builds!

Today i changed some parts on the hull (front engine placement for better damage mitigation, sinked the SV bay one block down to warant a sleeker line, top/buttom turret placement on diverent levels to warrant a good forward fireing line for all of them). The cockpit got an update, too. Med-/O2- Station, 2 armorlockers and a personal container where added there for quick access. Applied the color pallet from my former Bajonet SV.

I just can't follow everything what's posted... many gorgeous things among that...

Well I spent at least 3 days trying to figure out whether a SV could make a decent miner. And my answer is yes she can.
Not a starter miner but once you've got a capital and 2x400 Z/E, it's the highway. Decent on planetary deposits, a world apart on roids.

    [IMG] [IMG]

It's currently ugly but I'll make it acceptable. 8 lasers, T2, working great.

And a sunset (3 days ago)

    Cheers !

    Some more noodling with Moons...

@Needleship : This time I got good control of the terrain generation :

    NewGame_26_2020-08-18_00-46-19.png

Using a top-down 1024 x 256 .raw map (custom GroundShape) with a fixed seed and all "modifiers" set to 1 or 0 :

    GroundShape_5.png

It took me quite a few tries to find the proper size and alignment to make both ends of the map "meet" without overlap :

    NewGame_26_2020-08-18_00-46-49.png

The sad part is that since the curvature is quite obvious from orbit, it's a bit weird flying over the "flat" map after this :

    NewGame_26_2020-08-18_00-47-50.png

But I guess this will look better on bigger sized planets...

You have my curiosity! Is this perhaps a future attempt at making an Ecumenopolis? Perhaps Empyrion can add Lo-Res versions of Star Citizen's ArcCorp hahaha :D

Had a strange...bug? this evening. during a Zirax attack on my base. My base is actually three BAs sitting around a small lake. The main BA is on the west side of the lake built into a hill while across the lake to the east is my spaceport BA and to the south of it sits my farm BA. Each BA, of course has its own set of guns and they have overlapping zones of fire. While I was at the farm, it came under assault by a Zirax troop transport. Since the Zirax craft was coming from the north it passed right into the intersection of the gun emplacements at all three BAs. It was taking fire from three directions. It was impressive looking and I wanted to get a picture of this. I hit the F6 key to clear my FOV of the menus then the strangest thing happen at that same moment. Every turret at every BA stopped firing on the vessel and it was allowed to continue on through the zone to land unmolested at the farm. It was if the game F/FI decided the Zirax was a friendly or something. I still haven't figured out why they stopped firing, I've checked each BA setting for the turrets, checked the individual gun's setting but everything looks normal. I haven't had another Zirax attack to see if it repeats this behavior.

I'm just making tests to see what's possible to do with custom stamps and groundshapes. This is just the "rough terrain" but you can imagine putting more detailed smaller stamps to support regular (!) POIs and stuff - I want better integration of POIs in the environment. For example, with this method a city can be built with many linked POIs, and the surrounding grounds could be integrated in the whole.

Another quick try I just made (took me 30 minutes from photoshop to the game) on a size 2 moon, because @Germanicus deserves another laugh...

    NewGame_31_2020-08-18_03-04-58.png

Now remember this is just a test, as on a size 5 planet it can look very different, with detailed smaller stamps and some big ground structures :

    ---------

    NewGame_31_2020-08-18_03-08-36.png

Edit : all what was needed to get that result was a quick drawing :

    DeathStar_2.png

This trick can be used to make airfields, for example, and these will be visible from space. A normal airfield is much bigger than what we can make with blocks, so this is just one thing that comes to mind when dealing with the build limits we have : compensate with the terrain. Would be cool if we had some "artificial" textures for terrains too, so we could create planet templates for advanced alien species that look different from the rest.

Having the ability to paint roads, grass, highways, and sidewalks would be cool. This would be perfect for modular cities. I would love to see that available here and in game with the addition of a late game terraforming gun.

Well I've been good and staying out of the forum for a few days working on things.
Drawing on inspiration from another user. I started on a new space station for myself. It's still a work in progress.

Zirax Battleship is coming along slowly. Not much work on it today since the power was out for line maintenance.

I can't take credit for this ... but my buddy recently placed a stock blueprint base where the bay windows perfectly lined up with a planet's sunrise. It was gorgeous and reminded me of how this game has evolved to become a "better" No Man's Sky. NMS arguably has the best visuals in this genre but its gameplay is hollow.

The screenshot doesn't do it justice, but I was in awe playing on my 34" ultrawide (and I'm fortunate enough to be able to run most of the graphic settings on max).

No idea, but the planet itself had very saturated greens with blue grass (VERY reminiscent of a planet you'd see in No Man's Sky). Here's an outdoor screenshot of the same planet.

Catching up on older posts. Can I say that ship looks sweet?! I love designs that have intentional "gaps" and reminds me a bit of the habitat ring in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Which, by the way, I found a workshop blueprint for DS9 but it's damn expensive to build (nearly a million Titanium and Iron, off the top of my head with a nearly 60 hour build time). Part of me doesn't want to spawn it in creative just so I can appreciate it more by working toward it in-game. Someone also modded (and credited the original creator) that blueprint by adding a 4th pylon and fleshed out the interior further.
