Build: 1.7 3612 (Experimental) Mode: Creative / Survival Mode: Single Player / Multi Player Reproducibility: Always Severity: Minor (though highly annoying) Type: Elevators Summary: When entering an elevator block in space the jetpack is automatically turned off, but when exiting it the original jetpack state is not restored like it is on planets. This creates several inconveniences. Description: The jetpack drain fix of disabling the jetpack on entering an elevator appears to work seamlessly on planets. However in space it has three issues: 1) If your jetpack is on when you enter an elevator is it not re-enabled when you exit. This makes it inconvenient if you are jetpacking around your ship or a base and have to go through an elevator. If there is no gravity present you will just float away until you manually re-enable your jetpack. 2) When your jetpack is disabled in the elevator you move much more slowly than you used to when flying through it 3) If you are in a gravity field when the jetpack is disabled you get that slow re-orientation effect. This can be extremely jarring and disorienting if you are flying around the structure in a different orientation since it happens automatically. (Side note: can the re-orientation rotation speed be sped up a bit? At times it has made me queasy unless I just sit around and wait for it to stop rotating.) I believe an appropriate solution would be to disable this auto-shutoff behavior if you are in space. Jetpack drain is not an issue there anyway. It does feel appropriate on planets though. Steps to Reproduce: 1) Load the attached EPB in space or visit any orbital trade station in creative or survival. 2) Turn your jetpack off and walk through an elevator block. This works as expected. 3) Turn your jetpack on and fly through an elevator block. On exit your jetpack will not turn back on. If gravity is off, you will float away. After taking out some OPVs last night I'm adding that this is a lot more annoying than I anticipated. Any time you touch a ladder or an elevator your jetpack is turned off and you drift. There's also some issue I've noticed lately where turning on the jetpack can whip your view around, so having to toggle your jetpack ends up completely disorienting you at times. If you happen to be in an offset gravity well it's even more disorienting when in the elevator as you suddenly lose track of which way is forward / up / down. I was trying to go down an elevator to shoot some Zirax and had to bail because I had no idea what my orientation was at the bottom of the elevator.
With the jetpack disabled you can't get through the force field across the elevator of the pirate base.
One Piece of the Elevator is missing! If you go up in the elevator, hit the "J" key ever and ever again, then it works!
really, Eleon?! for every good thing you change, there are a dozen stupid things like this one that goes trough experimental into Public release...
Personally I find it cool that the jetpack goes out in the elevator. Players can no longer stand upside down to kill the NPCs, it just makes it more realistic. On the other hand it would be interesting if it turns on automatically when you are no longer there. I don't know if it's possible. It might be wise to consider a real elevator with a rising platform ?

We know of an issue with this only in space on planets it works fine for me (SP & MP) Trying this on a planet video https://streamable.com/tphw7t Can you say if you meant for in space ?
Many people make CVs with NO GRAVITY GENERATOR. Many tiny CVs literally cannot "afford" one. The change you have made has made playing in one of these builds deeply annoying. I understand if people felt that having their jetpack drain in the elevators when in a gravity well was annoying. But I'd like to ask whoever those people are to come join me on Anvil RE server and spend an hour or two trying to operate out of one of my CVs to see how annoying it is now with the "fix" for their problem. EVERY TIME player avatar gets anywhere near an elevator block, jetpack gets turned off. Drone Hatch with one elevator block below blast door and one above? Gotta turn your jetpack back on three times. And as an added bonus, when you actually exit the outer air tight door it turns it off again so you start "falling" in space. This can make for quite problematic dynamics whenever one is looting drones in tense situations. This last problem (the jetpack getting turned off causing the falling to occur when exiting an airlock that has an elevator in it) would be a problem no matter if the ship had a gravity generator or not. I'd wager that having the jetpack turn off when passing through elevators in a construct in space is 10 times more annoying than whatever problem existed with the previous configuration. In any event, you guys are professionals: please figure out a fix that does not address one problem for one set of users by creating a new problem for a different (though potentially overlapping) set of users. At this point I'm just taking all the elevators off of my ships because I never put gravity gens on CVs or space bases anyway. Maybe I'll put ladders in areas where getting up and down in gravity wells is essential and stairs cannot work.
ladders also affected, so that isnt a fix / bypass for the jetpack off. Redesign is going to be a pain of ramps for planetary and orbital will just be jeffery tube without elevators.
