Build: 1.8.14 3886 Mode: Survival / Creative Mode: Single Player / Multiplayer Reproducibility: Always Severity: Minor Type: Turret behavior Summary: Player ship turrets will not fire straight forward if the player is seated in a cockpit, and appear to be obstructed until they reach a certain elevation or if you are no longer seated Description: While testing ships I've noticed that it's very hard to get turrets to fire at targets right in front of the ship. These are the normal human turret models that can fire downward slightly. If you are not seated in your cockpit they appear to work fine and can engage targets anywhere in their field of view. If you are seated in a cockpit seat they will not engage until the target is fairly high above the centerline of the ship, well off of where your fixed weapons are useful. There should be no inconsistency here. Steps to Reproduce: Load the "Turret LOS Issue" savegame located here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16WqpIQDTUnens46hl8w1x2CyKzQERod7/. You should be seated in a small CV with two unobstructed laser turrets aimed at a Zirax-factioned target with a single generator. Type 'ai on'. The turrets will not target the Zirax structure. Start aiming the crosshair below the target. Eventually the lasers will start to fire on the target. Return your aim up closer to the target and wait a few seconds. The turrets will disengage. Aim directly back at the red center of the target, and step out of the cockpit. The turrets will immediately fire on the target. Sit back in the cockpit seat. The turrets will stop firing. If you want to test in another scenario I have attached the simple turret platform CV that I used. Noticed a similiar bug with HVs. The turrets wont't fire at enemies even with the correct settings unless I leave the cockpit, although I haven't noticed it with SVs and CVs probably beacuse the enemies are ussualy above or below me. Hope they fix the bug soon because the HVs are currently feel unusable.
Ugh, I guess that explains a thing or two. Thanks for taking the time to do a bug report on this, already thought I did something wrong with building since the turrets just won't behave as expected.
I absolutely love the style of these test runs. Cant's say I've experienced the same, was not bothered. But definitely worth looking into.
In further testing, this issue doesn't always manifest in every build. I've loaded ships of a similar size where the turrets fire correctly. I have one ship with 6 laser turrets on it in a stepped configuration and the front four will fire directly ahead while the rear two will not. At the very least the ship I attached will manifest the problem consistently.
I am also experiencing this bug...while seated in the cockpit laser turrets will not fire straight forward..if i get out of the seat turrets fire as expected. I can provide a video of this if required.
I'm attaching another ship that manifests this issue in a weird way. This is the 3-stack of laser turrets I was mentioning. Only the front 4 will fire straight ahead. The two on the top tier will not. All are unobstructed.
