Heya ! Come back to life on a swampy forest planet, I decided to give wood harvesting a chance. Found a super cool harvester build on the workshop, then tried to build my own mine, which is awful but mine. Anyway, both are very capable at chopping trees so fast. But it's for large trees. Small trees however are a pain in the arse. What's wrong with their hitbox ? They tend to get you stuck around them, not wanting to be cut and keeping you from any move. It's not a major issue to the gameplay but a really annoying one. Hey, please fix that, it's terrible. The small tree/bushes with many roots coming out of the ground on temperate planets are quite alright, you have to cut them close to the ground, but these little pines / dead pines are a real pain. See picture. This... Or that (note I put a central harvester module to see if it gets better) We all agree I did not overestimate my lumberjacking capability ? Cheers !
Sucks that this is still a thing. Playing threw the new tutorial and I can see it possibly souring the experience for a new player it's that annoying. It's not just harvesters even the starting HV gets stuck on them.
devs should have made those thin needle nose tree's pass though a mission updates ago. just disable their object collision and be done with them!
Spent the last couple of hours trying to make these trees non-collidable, or at least break on impact with an HV to no avail. The best I managed to do was make the trees despawn when approached or looked at directly. But that causes more problems than it solves.
Pretty sure the trees have been a problem since they stopped allowing vehicle impacts to knock down vegetation. And that it's been supposedly fixed a half-dozen times, but not actually
Still after 2 hours gathering, I've got like 2500 logs which are alot of fuel, and thanks to my filthy turrets killing Kriel scum, I now befriended the Zirax and the Pirates. I can dig in Zirax ground, and Talon too (because of the booboo kill my spiders mission). Nice. So the Forrest Gimp si awful at view, but a must as results do matter. The swamp starter is not that hard if you cheat enough. Just kidding.
The swamp may have replaced arid as my start of choice. It is harder in some ways, but the extra availability of materials makes it worthwhile Except maybe for Dread. I find I like the salvage instead of mine schtick
Harvesters work even if you put 17 in front of them. Still those trees have nasty collision boxes. I never started on an Arid. Still experimenting. The large swamp gave me some useful gold/sathium/neodymium around the poles, in a "hills" biome. Quite slow to progress in as you have to killl the aggressive wildlife around before venturing out, but not that bad. So I can go exploring the system with a warp-capable SV. Actually it is T3 CPU so it took me a little longer as I had to build 2x T3 extensions which mean 4 small optronics bridges. But alright, it's done. Gold gold gold, you can harvest it in my swampy hills biomes.

Hopefully during A12 or A12.X it can return as soon as it is ready I'll update this thread."
