For me, this is not a surprise but a logical step towards the final version. The only other big thing that leads this development of the game to the final is the physics of water and life under it. After that, the only thing left for the developers is to fine-tune the game and fix bugs. In my estimation, if they do so, next year at this time we will get the finished product. After that, it remains up to them how they will attract new customers and players of this game. Exactly what Hello Games has been doing for years with No Man’s Sky, the only game Empyrion can compare to.
No, but let's be serious for a minute... The game could have been just a bit more polished around v5 or v6, and they could have released it, and we would all have racked up thousands of hours anyway. Well, we did anyway... But since that time we got "factory" function (to be fleshed out), scenarios, a nice API I didn't even start to wrap my head around, everything-dock-to-everything, LADDERS, playfiled designer, scenario helper, a galaxy, repair-to-blueprint, and all the stuff I forgot... So sure they can try to attract new players, they just have to switch the Steam store's page to something more appropriate and indicative of what the game can do, and what is up to the players. If Empyrion was instead a "game & scenario maker" it would still be a deal at this price. Now just clean up the documentation please.
This is more or less exactly how I feel. My biggest issue with the game right now is an extreme lack of proper end game (or even mid game really), for singleplayer. The survival is good until you get your first CV, then it's endless POI raids and asteroid mining until you get your big CV, with which you can... fly around I guess. The game needs an incentive to explore, and a threat which keeps the survival part of the game relevant. Neither of those things are currently present. I explore only far enough to get the resources I need, and once I have a CV, there's nothing the Zirax can do to me which I can't recover from with ease. If there are no plans to improve that aspect of the game, then this is sorry news indeed, because it means there will be very little reason for me to keep playing. @Hummel-o-War Could you confirm or deny if there is any kind of end-game incentive/threat planned?
hello... For me this is an punch in stomach, but very hard and paynfull! Game is nice for alpha! but consider it satble you make me laught!!!! game have more than 200 Bug ( knowed issues+ bugs reports ), devs can andle with bugs hunt! game mecaniches it suks... all players wants underwater base.... just NOPE! performance improvments..... just NOPE! bugs killed..... just NOPE! This game is ready to follow course of next game with FAKE PROMISSES FROM DEVS ( spacebase df9 )+( starship theory ) Why i say that?!? devs cant beat bugs............ what devs do to solve problem.....change the bug report to an know issues!!!! Delivery rate of updates........... "dev"- ohhhhhh i got 1 bug solve, after 1 month. lets release this to shut up the gamers.... (randomly) "players"- after this update i found 10 more bugs!!!!! "devs"--- º-º (Poker face) I can´t andle with this " game 1.0 with 200 bugs report+knowed issues" " THIS GAME DIED ON THE BEACH " Goodbye Devs, nice to meet you good luck!
I can confirm there is an incentive for an improved endgame/threat. The Legacy Planet is one part of it (although this threat is currently "static").
The part that makes no sense to me is the "Leaving Early Access" part. If they had just said they were going to Beta and not said they were leaving early access then it would have made sense. Beta is part of early access. Early access is playing a game while it's still being developed. They are obviously still going to develop the game, and we are allowed to play during that time, so it should still be labeled as early access. There are FAR too many bugs and unfinished features and mechanics to consider the game as no longer early access. Removing the early access tag signifies that the game is being fully released, even if that's not what they are meaning to say. I guess it's finally time for me to leave a review on the game in a couple weeks since it's not going to be early access anymore........ It likely won't be a particularly positive review based on the current state of the game. *I don't review unfinished games (early access) on purpose, but it won't be early access anymore. I do wish the devs the best of luck going forward. This just screams boneheaded move though.
Sure. For an Alpha. Not for a released game. Mass/volume's implementation alone prevents that, much less the enormous content gap between getting your first CV and hitting the Legacy planet. I certainly hope Eleon plans to open up more scripting, and that enough modders are attracted to finish fixing the game I kinda saw this coming when I called out the removal of the H2/O2 gens over a silly stacking issue years ago, so I'm surprised... and yet, not surprised
Exactly. The expectations new players will have- and not get- will wind up tanking the currently very positive reviews. Which are almost all carrying the "great for an alpha" caveat
Unless you fix MP servers, this is not going to go well. Either take the time to fix it, or be prepared for the results.
Have to add my voice to the chorus saying "bad idea". It's just not ready yet: full of bugs, some very rough edges, and lots of good ideas that never got finished. Beta? Sure. But if I had bought this as a "finished" game, I'd want a refund. I fear Eleon are simply going broke and can't continue. Hope I'm wrong, because that would be very sad.
Just like the past 3 or 4 major releases you guys are jumping the gun. You need to have a last major release then another major release cycle just for polishing. Also get rid of mass reducing max speed already. Your inability to even acknowledge bad design decisions and player feedback about them doesn't bode well.
Thank you for the confirmation! Other issues aside, this is great news for me personally. Looking forward to a more active threat pushing us to get better ships and move from planet to planet.
I think that building their end game foundation around an unimmersive faulty CPU system and bad performance issues probably played a part in leaving early access. I don't think they want to deal with the blowback anymore.
Like a dog with a bone. CPU is a thing. let it go man. There are several things semi- functional. CPU was a bandage for them.
My wishes for a final version would be: - a low memory mode (especially this one!) - improved performance (e.g. for micro stutters) - Endgame - UI Adjustments for factions & cpu (it feels a bit like a placeholder currently) - UI Adjustments for the flight view - Mabye crouching - Better water system (it doesn't need to be liquid, but especially when digging around near water you see that its a plane). I'm mostly playing coop or solo, so i can't say much about things like pvp.
