Thanks I had decided pretty early on that I wanted to build a ship around broadside warfare tactics, and I think this fits the bill quite well. It's tough to grab decent action screenshots of this ship, since it likes to fire MASSIVE volleys that tend to cause a frame or two to skip. It's f*cking GLORIOUS in battle though, hahaha Speaking of which, here's a neat little .GIF I was able to create. Deimos only got the only volley off; the target was gone after that.
I am glad you saw my comment and decided to post here. This is an interesting ship - I do not normally go for CV's that are longer and thinner as I reject the notion that space craft should just be echoes of Earth ocean based navel warfare - longer narrower designs make sense for fluid mediums, but in space you limit your potential firepower and introduce structural weaknesses of being extended. But like you said, this design is entirely based on the old concept of the battleship broadside and you do not see that very much. I would love to see a video of it in battle against a reasonably challenging opponent. If you do not mind the challenge JRS, you should try creating a super battle ship that can do broadsides in three dimensions(which, do not get me wrong, this ship can kinda, sorta accomplish that feat.) It might be interesting.
Thanks for the suggestion/compliment, and I'll do my best to come up with a video. I'm a pretty solid graphic designer, but have never really messed with video. That being said, anyone wanna help? I'd be very appreciative I agree, and tried to break away from that design trend by having a somewhat-symmetrical layout, but applied to just one side of the ship, rather than top/bottom or front/back. I think the only thing that really stands out as something you'd see on a water-based vessel would be the bridge, in which it sits on top of the midship hangar, off to one side, much like some carriers do in real life. Thanks for seeing something unique in my design that made you take a second look I've already started a support frigate and destroyer that will match the same design style as Deimos. The destroyer will have something similar to what you're describing here, as it won't be as limited by such a radical asymmetrical design. Thanks for the challenge, I'll be sure to post what I come up with! This is the first ship I've ever built in this game, and I'm glad to see it so well-received.
I'm way behind on getting adequately up-to-date Creations built, but if I can ever rectify that someday, I wonder if i'll ever get to challenge that Sign's boast? To be fair, theoretically, one could try doing a long thin 'Pencil-shaped Ship' & try to keep the Thinness pointed at the foe at all times & try to make a pretty darn small target of yourself for the foe to try to hit. Not my kinda strategy personally but it may be some people's cup of tea to favor Evasion over Brawn. I dunno if I could be of help, but if I found the time perhaps I could try. I run W10 Home & use the Game DVR. With that said, my last Game DVR Recording didn't turn out awesome & I haven't had the time to seek help with how to rectify the Issue. My gameplay in-game during that Recording was spiffy & I have no idea why the Recording itself had those Graphical Problems during parts of it.
I refer you to exhibit A: If you do have time, I'd be happy to jump into a server with you and help with whatever I can! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I'm pretty proud of the detail I've put into this (I've also updated the BP in the workshop a number of times). If a picture speaks a thousand words, a well-done video of this thing in action would say ________________________ words about this ship. Yup.
Interesting butt parking design. I have wanted to try something like that myself - maybe not an escape pod, but something that attaches to CV's a-traditionally.
Wait a second... is this... symmetrical... ? It is fine to post a symmetrical/linear ship here for comparisons sake, but since a-sym designs really need the promotional help, try to route your symmetrical designs to their respective BP threads - even if they are related designs. Here is the latest SV thread: http://empyriononline.com/threads/small-vessel.1501/page-58
I'm actually using this technique for the destroyer that I'm working on, but it'll be for the actual gun turrets on this ship That way, I can add more artillery to the ship without exceeding device limits. My bad. Yes, the escape pod is symmetrical, I think I was using it as more of a promotional shot for the Deimos, but I understand your point
Introducing, Dust Cloud Assault A cool idea - a dust cloud of spatially random blocks. Some with pilots seats, others with guns, others with engines, and so on. This is a full-fledged HV. Could use some more expansion if you really wanted to use it for PVP, but it not, I hope it helps to stimulate creativity! Camouflages well and will confuse your opponents! Steam link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=805759833 Enjoy!
Introducing, Spiral Island Assault. A huge multi-tiered Hovercraft that I originally designed to be some kind of neat spacial assault platform with guns on the different tiers, but then as I got going, it became more of a creative exercise; BUT it could be a very powerful HV. The thing is, now that I have built it, I am really not sure how to arm it. Also, for some odd reason the blueprint system will not create an image with a after image of the blueprint screen - so the workshop image you see while browsing still has that window. As soon as I figure out how to create an image for it, I will. So! Fellow workshoppers, I leave that to you; feel free to take this design, modify it, arm it, drive it around, shoot people with guns you equip it with... but do please link your work - I am eager to see the results. Steam Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=805759675 Enjoy!
I could imagine this kinda dude making for a interesting 'Player NPC Boss' kinda thing for a PvE MP Server Event.
I really like this idea - some kind of amorphous attack... creature? Alien synthetic construct, that would attack your base after some event/trigger/point in time? It would need to be bigger.... lots, lots bigger for MP, but that would be doable... I might post a suggestions thread about this. In fact... I just did! http://empyriononline.com/threads/l...for-a-boss-fight-s-and-ambush-encounter.8357/
And now a cool CV to match: Introducing, Asteroid Assault. With the success and curiosity of Dust Cloud Assault, I had the idea of expanding things and making a CV version. This is intended as a creative exercise but is a full fledged CV - just lacks a warp drive(for now.) I think I am going to be adding more "asteroids" over time as well as changing their shapes to make them less block/ovoids and more like real looking asteroids/meteors. To be competitive in PVP would need more "asteroids" and armor - but it could be done. Casts really cool shadows. As with all my creative exercises feel free to take them modify them any way you wish, I only ask that you enjoy being creative!
Oops, steam link for Asteroid Assault: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=806140319
Introducing, Odd. A super cheap, and accessible starter HV. Level 5 requirements, 3 minigun turrets, little touch of everything you might need in terms of storage. SUPER fast and maneuverable. An ode to the members of society that everyone knows and that are considered a little... odd. Not many realize that they are the most important parts - we would, as a species, collapse without them. Here's to you awesome people! Not for PVP. Best played when listening to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FwV0cNUV4s&index=6&list=RDv90utlNYnBI Steam Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=807312935 Enjoy!
Introducing, Spawn. This is a very solid ship that is visually stunning, but I am not quite sure where this falls in my line up of HV's... it does not possess hardened steel, but it does have 4 rocket launchers that costs 10 Neodynium - so a more exotic resource, but not much of it... I dunno, tough to say. The colors are Dark green with orange but since the alt-o BP capture process does not really do a very good job with dark green, I placed it over lava for spookiness - DO NOT let that fool you(granted lava is sweet) it looks better when the base colors are present. Not for PVP Steam Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=810253321 Enjoy!
The PIF Enyo is a Formido-class orbital bomber, built for Pyrrhus' Imperial Fleet in 2216. Widely used in the bombardment and takeover of Masperon. Assigned to the battlecarrier PIF-813 Deimos, and built specifically to fit her foreward holds. A total of 6 of these bombers (3 in each fighter wing) accompany the Deimos at all times on her voyages.
@Fractalite We finally did it Introducing the Shade Mk1. An asymmetric hover for all your hunting shooting and fishing needs. take a trip out to the wilds and have a party using our patented pendulum hover technology, building this was no easy matter, balancing the COM so that the damn thing doesn't fall over is a nightmare, but we managed it... to a degree One of our problems with A-Symmetry is making the vessel believable, this adds another layer of primary design decision making and has a BIG input into the style and shape of the ship, but we think we managed to pull it off this time, and although it's a tad unstable, and you really need to run it at 3m high, it's still easy to maneouver, and is rescuable from most.... moment Spoiler: Image Goodness! It's a fun challenge
Just popped this in creative to have a look to see how you stabilized it, and I must say, putting the hover engines on the top is an interesting approach. I had not considered something like that. This is a stable, nicely balanced HV - that as far as my testing on Aestus seemed to show, could handle just about any terrain.
