Yeah, I was going to write one and then realized I am much more of a reader and would most want a video? But! If you want one I can type one up. It will likely have multiple posts and be on the longer side of things, but it will be comprehensive. Give me this evening.
I didn't mind it to start with either - was kind of interesting to design around - for a while. Now I think I just plain hate it. What kind of attack are you expecting? Most of the time you don't need much - or at least, outside of some fun with console commands, I have never seen a normal in game attack that was worth paying attention to once you have a few cannon turrets up. Just wondering if I have missed something...? For starter bases, I am always coming up hard against the T1 limit (maybe not immediately, but enough to prevent basic upgrades, like a med station, or repair station or whatever) even with something really basic, so in the end I gave up and designed a separate little dedicate defence tower. I'm about to do the same for my space station bases as well as again, I just got sick of fighting with the CPU thresholds.
And that is all that is on it... a few cannons..in each direction but down. Did I mention that they shot up my last base? I was distressed and peeved mightily. As for the texturing it thing If shooting out a few blocks causes a major portion of the base structure to fail I don't want to have spent the time texturing and painting something I am going to scrap and rebuild.
If you want to 'test' (or utterly destroy) your base, try these console commands (they dont work in creative): 'ba s 1' heavy drone attack - lots of rockets 'ba s 2' another heavy drone attack - even more rockets and mayebe some other stuff 'ba s 3' an army to storm the gates The latter one was responsible for the utter carnage of a couple of pages back in this thread
Been working some more on my bases. Near finished off an orbital that has been in the works for ages. It is a mid game one that was originally based on carving out the guts of my exploration CV and adding furnace, deconstructors and a new hull, but since has been completely reworked, but still is a T2, L10 initial build. Can land 6 small ships each on 9x9 pads (2 inside, 2 on top and 2 on entrance pads). Top is big enough for my medium size CV. The 4 pods on the bottom start out empty when built, and each allow for upgrade by sticking upto 240k worth of cargo extension in them for the 4 storage controllers. Still needs quite a bit of work on the outside, but usable in game at least. The other base is also an orbital - a rework of the ground base, so that now I have orbital and ground base version of it. They are mostly identical inside with the same shell, just different arrangements of outside stuff to suit ground base vs space station. Room on top to park a decent size (3-4) medium CV + Docking hub at one end for much larger CVs. Parallax based docking alignment projectors for multiple heights of cockpit vs exit door - line up the right level of +s so that your cross hair, and a red and a green are all lined up... ... and you end up with precise docking with perfectly lined up door frames Inside pretty much same as before - had to move the gravity generator to be more central as didn't quite cover the hangar.
I have a few different things going on. First somehow the Zirax managed to blow half of my Water Extraction Plant up even though I had turrets defending it It was literally blown clean in half. I almost believe it was a bug. So to start with I went on the warpath and cored their drone base. Then I began cleaning up my compound. I replaced the water extraction building with a basic 36 plot Garden and then spawned in the Hangar I designed. TK85's Water Extraction https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1696441018 I went to raid a Zirax Missile Base next. What a cluster that has been. Had hail killing me under the base, got stuck between two hangar doors that wouldn't open, had a hangar door glitch me through the ground and finally had a shotgun Zirax spawn inside my character and kill me instantly. This planet is dotted with identical missile bases. I can't say I'm looking forward to that. Never have I looked more forward to a nuke from orbit option. No offense to Vermillion. It's a great build but never have I experienced so many glitches simultaneously. I took a break from survival and started cleaning up some of my builds in case I build up the effort to make a Faction submission. I posted the Hangar I designed for survival to my workshop. It's pretty basic but I think it looks clean. Prior to this build I've only really used the pressure plate for the Repair Station power toggle. It's a pretty solid option to a motion for triggering ground level hangar doors from the inside. Hardt hangar https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2019202700
Strange, I think it must be a Steam issue. Link worked for me, then didn't then did Tried some other users builds and occasionally got the 502.
How'd you get stuck between the two hangar doors? That shouldn't even be possible. There's a console in the corner that opens the inner door. You just need to walk over and touch the screen. ___________________________________________________________________ As for what I did today... This is the right. A new Supply/Trade station. I've been doing this for about a week and I hate it. It does not spark joy. I build it for about an hour and a half before getting bored and doing something else. Since starting it, i've gotten so bored I went and built a couple of entire patrol vessels (seen in the first shot on the left) and there's a good chance i'll give up on it for another week or two while I make more desert POIs which have been on hold since early A11. It's basically finished inside. Mostly furnished, just not textured yet and missing some minor details. I wanna do something else... Maybe i'll do the Desert Missile Base next.
It shouldn't. It worked fine the 1st time I used it to send my drone through. Then it didn't. Reloading caused the doors to shudder continually. Which is how I got pushed through the floor. My solution was to log all the way out and load an earlier save. Didn't reproduce really. What did reproduce was being minigunned through the wall in the stairwell. That I filed a bug report for. Overall a pretty frustrating experience.
That's the Zirax Commander in the control room. I reported the bug in A10.5 but they've only just decided to fix it now... 8+ months later.
The very 1st hangar door (the one by the fake elevator ramp) just closed on me too. I toggled the switch, it opened, I walked over and killed a Zirax that spawned out of nowhere ( already cleared that side prior) and the hangar door closed on me and pushed me backwards. I toggled the switch off then on again and it stayed open. Unless they're on timers?
There's a fake freight elevator at ground level because we don't have working elevators for vehicles. and this brings you down into a shaft then a wide tunnel. The 1st Hangar door is there with a switch to open it. Then past that is the hangar door controlled by the switch in the control room. Then the final hangar door that you have to 1st hit the switch and then stand next to the console. I assume none but the last door are supposed to be on a timer? I haven't watched anyone clear this POI and this is my first time personally. I assume you're supposed to blast the top open and navigate a small HV inside. I could be wrong.
I finally finished off the smaller of the two orbitals (Mariana Orbital - the name has a Magellan connection) which is now on my workshop. So now I can focus on the end game bases and CVs as finally I have a useful base rather than living in a shanty town / cave or whatever I find
While placing my Space Dock in the Orbit I found a suitable way to supply myself with ample amounts of water. I dug a hole on a nearby moon until I reached a layer of Snow -> ...gives up to 50% Water
I saw it in the workshop. Very nice. I figured out what the issue is with the Hangar doors and I believe it is intended behavior. When you get far enough away from one it unloads and when you get close enough to it again it reloads. The default state is "closed". I couldn't tell before because I hadn't cored the Missile Base but on my way back out all the doors were closed again. ie Visually they were closed and you couldn't move through them but when cursor-ed over it would say "close hangar door" not open. Clicking would open the door So yes you can lock yourself behind a door theoretically because if the trigger is switch based the game will not recheck if the switch was toggled apparently.
I made an SV/HV Duo. Figured I would share them today, as they are fairly complete. The HV was my main tool for survival early game start, and has been a work in progress all through survival. The SV took a while to get to the point where I was able to get off planet and leave behind my starter planet (Merdar), which was hellishly hard, and unforgiving in early survival start. The HV is a Mobile Quarters with Health, Clone, Storage and Harvest Capability. Aptly called the TEKTITE TAKAHE The SV is a Carrier with a fair amount of Storage, Lift power, and Thrust. Known as the CELESTIAL CRANE ATTACHED A LOVE OF ALLITERATION AUDACIOUSLY APPLIED ACROSS ALL ARCHITECTURAL ASSIGNMENTS SV EXTERIOR - CELESTIAL CRANE HV EXTERIOR - TEKTITE TAKAHE PAIRED - HV DOCKED TO SV Interior pics SV INTERIOR - CELESTIAL CRANE HV INTERIOR - TEKTITE TAKAHE Both crafted entirely, and proudly in MP survival. I like to think of it as a more "organic" form of crafting, having to work within restrictions of resource limits, time consumption of collecting resources to build and expand capabilities, and forces the player to be more critical about the style of build, from early on and into later game play. Neither are currently available on the workshop. If you are interested in taking them for a spin, let me know, I'd be happy to share.
