I was just having a conversation with Rainyday and Kaeser about this, and I thought I would open it up to a larger audience/input. What music do people listen to when they build in creative?

While classical music tends to be my go to in my day-to-day, I found that I could not really listen to it in creative. So I turn to a smattering of techno, rap/hip hop, Bassnectar and related material, and possibly even other video game music.

Include links and info! I would like to hear it!

    I have a music library spanning Autechre to Zappa and I'll listen to pretty much any of it while building, a few particular favourites would be;

the Orb: Little Fluffly Clouds, Towers of Dub
    Orbital: Satan, The Box, P.E.T.R.O.L
Carl Orff: Carmina Burana (O' Fortuna)
    Dreadzone: Little Britain, Gangster
    Faderhead; Aquire the Fire
    VnV Nation: Archangel
    Celldweller: Switchback
    Eat Static: Interceptor
Metallica; For Whom the Bell Tolls
Led Zeppelin: The Battle of Evermore, Kashmir, When the Levee Breaks
    Jonny Cash: Hurt, Nobody
NIN; Head Like a Hole, Closer
    Apoptygma Berezerk; Kathy's Song
    Archive: Londinium
    Katchachurian: Violin Concertos
Ico & Shadow of the Colossus soundtracks
    Juno Reactor: Pistolero, Luciana
    Cygnus X: Superstring, Orange theme
    Front Line Assembly: Circuitry, Provision
    Delerium: Spheres Vol 1*
    System 7: Water

Youtube seems to be able to find most of this;)

*Actually worth noting, this is the one I play most, perfectly suited for building hyooooj structures in the darkness of space :)

Unless I'm recording my voice, the music I listen too doesnt leak into the vids/streams I do.

I generally listen to all manner of things. From hard rock classics, to new day techno. I don't listen to cRAP though. ;) Thats not music.

    But since you are asking:

Nice, heard of some, will go investigate the others.

I was kind of curious why you liked this for building as I first started to listen to it. Once I advanced things a bit, I can definitely see why you enjoy it. Repetitive and upbeat without being overwhelming. Thank you for this! Any others?

Now, I mostly listen to just old school death metal - but with Empyrion I have found the space ambient side of myself :D

Here's few songs that have caught my attention (mostly from listening to Spotify playlists):

    Solar Field - Sol

    Asura - Life2

    Biosphere - Patashnik

    Bad Sector - Ampos

If you can recommend similar stuff - especially something in the same mood as Bad Sector - I'm all ears :)

@rainyday I discovered the Space Ambient genre in a mod for Stellaris.Check out the channels these are on.

    Carbon Based Lifeforms:

    More stuff from different artists:

Most often you find this music as whole albums since it tends to be written and performed as a whole rather than a collection of short radio-friendly songs.

    EDIT - one more:

When it comes for music for space games i go for electronic, ambient, and new-age genres J.M.Jarre etc, classical music fits well too, as well as Psybient, a fusion sub-genre of Ambient music. In few words anything puts me in the mood for Cosmos exploration.

Does opening this thread cause your browser to freeze for a short amount of time ?
I would recommend that if anyone wants to link to alot of youtube videos in their replies put spoiler tags around them so the thread doesn't freeze up when trying to open it or maybe it only happens for me ;)

I've known Lift to have similar problems too.

For the Topic: Stardew Vallew has become a side addiction for me alongside Empyrion, & this one's my fav BGM in it:

I have to go with the classics SCI FI themes to get me in the mood for building ships. Try raiding a base or building a massive CV while you have Star trek or Stargate music playing, it's pretty EPIC.
Click the spoiler tag to enjoy this classic SCI FI theme goodness. lol

I hope it's ok to reply to a thread this "old". (you newer know nowadays.)

Listening mostly to very old stuff i know from a time, when everything was still awesome. (Most songs i listen to, have a rather emotional, than musical reason tbh.)
Most of the time, i do delete some songs depending on my situational mood and hear them in random order, so the list is always a bit changing.

Lenny Kravitz - Are you gonna go my way
    Billy Idol - White Wedding
    AC/DC - Back in Black
    U2 - I still haven't found what i'm looking for
    Mr. Mister - Kyrie
Chris de Burgh - high on emotion
    Van Halen - Jump
    AC/DC - Thunderstruck
    Billy Idol - Rebel Yell
Red Hot Chilly Peppers - Give it Away
    Monster Magnet - Space Lord
    Nirvana - in Bloom
R.E.M. - Man on the moon
    Kid Rock - Cowboy
    Beck - Loser
    H-Blockx - Risin' High
    Spin Doctors - Two Princes
Ugly Kid Joe - Everything about you
    Beasty Boys - Sabotage
    Kid Rock - Bawitaba
    Lenny Kravitz - Fly away
Bon Jovi - Livin on a Prayer
Guns & Roses - Sweet Child of mine
Cutting Crew - Died in your arms
    R.E.M. - Everybody hurts
    Alanis Morisette - Ironic
U2 - With or without you
    R.E.M. - the one i love
Guns & Roses - Civil war
    Mr. Mister - Broken Wings
Pink Floyd - Wish you where here
Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of Silence
Bon Jovi - Blaze of glory
    U2 - One
John Farnham - You're the voice
    U2 - Beautiful day
Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive

    Question:
Do you guys have any recommendations for sci fi -ish electronic music?
(Idk, how this is called tbh. Just nothing annoying or vocal. pls.)
I ahve the feel, i need to widen my horizon a bit. :)

My go to music is electroswing. Unfortunately it is hard to find mixes on youtube that are not all the same songs, the genre is dominated by a few artists and few people go beyond that. The big acts are obviously big because they are good but hearing the same song for the 100th time gets boring at some point.

    Some examples:

I've been super busy this week with writing, aircraft maintenance & missions (RL) and managing several threads. Its about time I settle down and have some fun. I gotta thank Radiohead and Brand New for getting me through several pages of back story. If you haven't bought Radiohead's new album, A moon shaped pool or Brand New's album, Science Fiction , you are missing out. They are both terrific albums, and even after listening to them from several months on end, I still love them.

When I'm writing or building, I usually play Pink Floyd, Tool, Radiohead, Failure, A Perfect Circle, Deftones, Bullet for my Valentine, Puscifer, Brand New, Modest mouse or Taking Back Sunday. Of course this is always accompanied by Alice in Chains, no matter who is playing.

Some other music I've been listening to:
Broken Window Serenade - Whiskey Myers
Oh comely - Neutral Milk Hotel
    Finest Line - Mike Sempert
A children's crusade on acid - Margot and the Nuclear So and So's
