    Mode: Survival
    Mode: Singleplayer

    SERVER NAME: N/A
    SEED-ID: 953893
    If applicable:
MODIFIED PLAYFIELDS: DontKnow (added more than default planets)

    Reproducibility: Random
    Severity: Trivial

    Type: Drilling (voxel nodes)

Summary: A10 Survival Drill "pauses" while holding mouse button while drone drilling.

Description: While drilling a (voxel) ore node, my survival drill would "pause", even though I was holding the mouse down to drill. This appears to be random: it just shuts off. The "spinning dot" that shows you are drilling stops moving, and it stops collecting ore. Moving the mouse starts it up again. Re-pressing the mouse does NOT always start it up again. See attached video: I'm holding the mouse down almost constantly the whole time, and it keeps "pausing". It resumes when I move the mouse.

I almost always drone-drill, so I don't know if this is exclusive to drones, or a general problem.

While this happens while pointing "up" in the video, I've had it happen pointing "down" as well.

I've noticed the same buggy drill behavior! Hope the Devs will patch soon!

This isn't only limited to survival drill, it bugs the same way on the next tier drill too.

As written in another Part of the Forum - in my Opinion it happens most of the time, with both Drills, when I use the Drone.
I tried to drill by Hand and the issue was not as hard as with the Drone. By Hand it only happened when the Ore or wall was out of reach of the beam. On the other hand using the drone and hovering almost on the Ground and the Drill stops...

I found a way to somehow reproduce the bug.

I was trying to drill a magnesium asteroid with a drill (old drillt2) and 80% of the time when i was drilling it consumed "ammo" but didn't drill (Left it trying to drill for over 1 min)

When i moved the mouse to a bit left or right (specially when i was pointing @ stone) it started drilling again but it paused after x amount been drilled. It is not the range cause i was like 0.5M away.

Now here is the strange part.

With the "debug drill" this almost didn't happened (you must know the "bug" to notice it)

I can not post a bug report cause i use a custom config (craft times and stacks but still custom)

Taelyn from discord told me to post it despite the custom config.

So to sum up with an normal drill go to an asteroid (magnesium that is T2 ore is better for reproducing)
Start drilling without a drone but do not change direction with the mouse only move forward as you drill (you wont drill alot ;p)
The drill will still use ammo but wont drill unless you change direction with the mouse to a new area and back again
Bare in mind that to "unpause" the drilling you must manage to drill something or destroy something
(change the terrain even if you do not get ore or any other resource back)

Do not use the debug drill cause a slight mouse move will not "pause" the drilling.

    Hope it helps.

Ok @rewt I'm understanding what your talking about now. That same thing was happening with me to but in 9. Single player. That was on a planet digging ore. Would happen with both the hand held or drone. All hand held drill types. Never tried the Debug one.
Only way to get it to start mining again was to move the beam left or right and sometime had to move back and forward. It would use fuel the whole time. So I would say this bug has been there for awhile.
But with all that it never happened all the time. I always thought maybe I was hitting at the wrong angle of drilling. So was never able to reproduce with a save or anything. Just moving was enough to get it going, so would logging out and back in.

@RazzleWin I didn't play at all @ 9.x so i didn't know. The debug drill have a BIIIIIIGER radius so it almost removes the need to point left, right, up or down a bit to start drilling again. But i manage to reproduce it even with the debug drill :)

So the wrong keyword is "pause". It does not pause, it simply stops drilling while consuming "ammo".

@rewt The key thing you said was you managed to reproduce it! (We so need a thump's up emot)

I want to add that when the drill stops drilling do not move the mouse, exit game, load game without moving the mouse ingame...still no drill

I think I figured out the root cause for this.

    Too close to the target.

I'm used to getting really close to what I'm mining, and I think what is happening, is the drill "target point" is actually inside the terrain we are drilling, and it's "confusing" it, so it stops.

If I back a bit away, and keep a bit further range from how I used to drill with the old drills, it seems to keep going/moving just fine.

Nah, it stops same way at a distance. As far as mining distance goes, as far as you can see the targeting circle, you can mine unless it bug-pauses. My theory is that there is some hit overlap with 2 different voxelmaps, the terrain and ore vein. But i don't know how the different voxels merge etc so no actual idea.

Why is this thread tagged "CURRENTLY not reproducible"? I can reproduce 100% every time i mine. I guess i should record some video then, brb...

I find both drills pause for no reason, but when drone mining it happens very often when drilling straight down, hardly ever as soon as you drill horizontally. Really weird!

Here is a video, notice that ammo is constantly depleting. I'm not releasing the mining button. Youtube may still be processing it a little while.

Because I cannot reproduce it. Does it only happen with the personal drone ?

Can you attach the save game with your character left in this location ?
    Thanks

    Zipped save there:
    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AkA8eob3K73BhAzDeWNo9mrwPYIn

But really it happens on every planet and every mining node. Just now i landed on new planet and picked first safe ore vein that came across. It is singleplayer.

Ok thanks I found it now it's only with the personal drone.
Has anyone got this without the personal drone ?

I only drone drill. I'll try personal drilling and see if it happens. I need to mine an asteroid here shortly.

    @Pantera
I just EVA'd and went to hand-drill an asteroid.

Does it hand-drilling/no drone as well.

    EDIT:
It's harder to see it doing it because of the beam light effect overshadowing the spinning circles, but it does it and pauses collecting ore.
