Usually means your game is corrupted not much you can do about it

All you can try is renaming the game.dat.bak inside the save game to game.dat
and see if it resolves it, but unlikelly

Or if you made a backup continue from there

Yeah the game.dat.bak was exactly the same as game.dat (all zeros) so no joy.
Lost 5-6 hours of early game grind so save often I guess.
    Thanks

It sounds like your power failure might have occurred exactly as the game.dat file was updating, and unfortunately, there isn’t much that can be done for that.

My only recommendation is to look into a UPS if your budget allows. It will protect your hardware and, if the power cut lasts longer, give you the chance to turn the PC off safely until the power is restored & stable. A good example is this model: https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/pfc-sinewave/cp1350pfclcd/

Any gaming machine needs a UPS with "Active PFC Compatibility" and "Line Interactive Topology" to keep the power supply happy. I use these myself because I deal with random power cuts and don't want my machines to be damaged; in my opinion, a UPS like this is a must.
