Corvette class ships are smaller than a frigate. If you ever played any of the egosoft x-series games, especially the X3-Terrain Conflict or Albion Prelude the Corvette is a small capital ship more along the lines of a gunship.

    Biggest to smallest:

    Carrier
    Battleship
    Cruiser
    Destroyer
    Frigate
    Corvette
    Patrols

Frigates are not huge. So keep them smaller, and consider the max limit be a carrier, and smallest being patrols (which is kind of what you find on planets now, but even some of those are more corvette, than patrol sized).

Patrols maybe... but, SV are more first strike vessels. Small, like our jets, bombers, tanks. You can make a pretty big SV ... but its a lot of work haha.

I'd say a Corvette and Patrol, are CV without Warp and crew quarter/amenities (constructors, fridges, cabins, etc). Frigates you get into crew qrtrs, and other bigger areas if you can fit them.

But those listed above are more of the military classes, and not necessarily the explorer classes, which can range from big to huge as they need lots of life sustaining and livable areas as well as capabilities to reach far destinations (warp) and other such protections.

*cough* he also left out Dreadnaught, Titan, Leviathan, Mothership class vessels. Titans being massive, but they can't match size to Leviathan and of course Mothership class ships. :p

Those dont exist in real life, I was just quoting where frigate lands in current tech class sizes. And obviously, if there are already many above frigate, then my point was made that frigates are not huge.

Nice. It looks a bit tricky to land though. Maybe that's why they always crash in the attempt.

I will point out that Dreadnaughts used to exist in the real world back in WWII era, the Bismark was a Dreadnaught class battleship and it took a lot of punishment before it was taken down from a combination of the Royal Navy and the ships crew scuttling the vessel.

    Mr Hummel-O-War,

PanGalactic Mining & Salvage boosted the wreckage of the Titan from the moon into a spacedock. We've spent the last few days pouring over the original design specifications and rebuilt the hull as close to the original design spec as possible.

We don't know what type of engines she shipped with and they were long gone when we towed the ship. Much of the original equipment had long since been salvaged from the wreckage. It's been retrofitted with the heaviest engines we could locate. She boosts from gravity wells easily and reaches combat velocities quickly. Bit of a fuel hog, though...

We placed a few turrets based on current AI ship style configurations, but they're all common guns. No black market alien gear gets fitted in my shipyards. The hull has been pressure tested and fitted with artificial gravity.

She's fitted for a crew of about 16-18 'persons' and is now equipped with a small garden, mess area, crew quarters, medbay, advanced fabbers, and a brig. We noted that the engineering section was easily accessible from the shuttle bays, so we altered the interior a bit to keep tourists from wandering into hazardous areas.

Wouldn't it be great if this thread resulted in official "size classes" with block size/count references so we could all build to the same standards? ;)

    @Hummel-o-War

I do not know if you still need it, I have this version of Titan.

I made it to my use and never shared it on Steam.

When I saw this topic, I added the equipment I add during the game - the version of it I have here is accessible at level 10.

    Thanks alot for the start!
The sorting of large to small helps a bit.. but just that.. a bit...

    Totaly!

Coming fron a non-sea-force-country, I have no idea about frigates, corvetes or cruisers at all.
And the moment i was on the wiki, reading descriptions of US Navy ship classes… got me MORE confused than before.. as the wiki stated… oh this small Cruiser is bigger than the big carrier, while that other frigate is larger than the Cruiser, oh and dont forget About the battleship, that also cervers as a frigatte.. yeah.. well… no idea…
