How to mitigate. - When being shot quickly veer up. - Use internal cockpits. Seats in a cockpit behind glass etc.
actually, still happens with internal cockpits. (had 2 layers of combat steel and 4,5 block spacings between main and internal cockpit)
Can confirm internal cockpit does not prevent it. And to contradict Ente saying it's the hotfix, this happened about a month ago. I was shot by miniguns through dozens of layers of hardened steel complete with lag armor and everything. I didn't have a shield on though. It was in MP on official servers. I even have a video of the event on YouTube. If someone really cares, I could share the link and timestamp.
I can also add on that it seems that turrets have much better tracking than they ever did for most fights. While my stuff is custom config, I noticed a sharp increase if difficulty from one patch to the next against our 'laser' (aka minigun) turrets. The guns would be basically non-evadable and were dead-eye against the cockpit, even though there was other targets they should've hit instead (weapons, gens, etc..). In some cases it followed it's configured logic, but cockpits aren't even a choice in attack targets so IDK why it would focus this.
Maybe the 1.9.10 patch broke it then? At least I didn't have any issues with SV VS. CV around end of march.
I can't be sure, but I think turrets prioritize player/NPC/drone targets over the vessels. Thus, the turrets are targeting the player inside the cockpit. If your turrets are custom miniguns, I'd wager they're hitscan too.
Yeah this is still happening with alarming frequency for forward placed cockpit SVs in vanilla and scenario. I cannot post my latest build to the workshop, or i'll just be sending people into frustration, and having to put a hold on future SV builds. Is it a issue of the players collision mesh exceeding the bounds of the cockpit? This is happening to me in a variety of SV cockpits. Could a quick fix to be setting player to invulnerable state to turret damage while inside cockpit?

Summary: Can get killed inside a cockpit, despite two layers of protection (shields and HP of cockpit) Description: Getting killed while in a forward positioned cockpit, through a variety of different cockpit types. This has been an issue for years, and isn't recent patch related. First time it happened a few years back, thought it was me accidently leaving cockpit mid flight. Having many experiences since then, it is not. Steps to Reproduce: 1) Spawn An SV build with a forward or near forward positioned cockpit (a variety of cockpits, maybe all including cockpits 6 and 7) 2) Engage Pirate faction ships - Weapons related? 3) This issue has been submitted before and I have added to the thread, so understandably if its merged. I'd just like to shoot off a flare gun on this matter as its really discouraging from a player and builder perspective. One that I don't like getting shot out of a cockpit on a ship that i've upgraded then have it blown up. Then as a builder I don't want to post something that will send people through the same experience. I don't know if its hit order calculation related, or can it be collision mesh related? Is the player's mesh exceeding the cockpit in some parts? Seems to be with prolific with Pirates and Warlords. With those they have an abundance of miniguns. I have taken player health damage in small chunks, and also have been one shot, while maneuvering ship to evade fire. Culprits certainly miniguns for repeated health damage, and possibly missles for the oneshot. As a possibly quick fix, can some sort of immunity state to weapons be set while a player is mounted to encased cockpits, and the passenger box?
I also want to poke this again, and perhaps ask if this also occurs in PvP? So far I haven't really tested this in my scenario extensively, but based on some replies it seems to matter if we're targeting an SV vs. a player in an SV, so if nothing else see if different results occur with 2 PVs with different turret settings? I also suspect the issue may have something to do with shield pen calculation, since that feature is relatively new + explains how players can be damaged with shields on.
Just curious if the problem here is actually known on Eleon's end or if we need to provide more data for reproduction here. This is a serious impact to all combat in the game and it's been a number of months it's been here so.
The prefix for this thread is "tracking/filed" which means it has been reproduced & logged in our internal bug tacker & in a que to look in to as soon as it is possible to do so. I have to say though this isn't so easy to trigger on demand to analyze/debug but will work on a solution for this as soon as it is possible.

Cockpit wasn't damaged until after I was dead, shields dropped, and ship exploded. It looks like you jumped out of your cockpit and then got shot. I have mistakenly hit the key to leave my ship on numerous occasions.
How do you figure though when they were moving at about 118m/s at the time? You literally can not leave your cockpit when the craft is moving, unless you are in god mode. The game will not allow it. You also know they were not in god mode because they died, among other reasons. The devs had also already marked the discussion as "Filed/Tracking" in the top which they only do once they acknowledge there is a legitimate bug or issue to track.
Im just trying to think of what caused it. One possibility could be from aoe damage. Your cockpit is on the very front. And even though the shield blocks the impact, maybe some weapon aoe damage somehow penetrated through and hit you, and of course that shouldnt happen... Or should it? Maybe it was just the kenetic shockwave that got you, being so close to the impact point.
