Build: B4262 Mode: Survival SERVER NAME: Official EU SEED-ID: Unknown Reproducibility: Sometimes Severity: Minor/Moderate Type: AI/NPC Summary: NPC mobs AI detection delayed when detecting & attacking player Description: AI mobs sometimes take several seconds to wake up and start attacking player. Seen this happen with Zirax troops, spiders, scorps, infected and misc other enemies. Steps to Reproduce: 1) Spawn on the arid starter and find radar station POI. 2) Destroy the defense turrets with debug gun, and gear up with your favorite weapons. Or just run it with gm on. 3) when enemies spawn don't attack them. Make sure they can see you and observe how long they take to attack. If it's over 1-2 seconds then that is the bug you are looking for. More details and videos may be added later. Also, anyone else seeing this that has additional reproduction steps or info please post it in the comments
Not all spiders are affected in sp vanilla. i did find some that were effect by a huge delay actually didn't bother to fight at all. not sure yet if anything else is affected. random arid world in polaris teritory.
poi is on an arid world in a abandoned reactor. Some more videos of the behavior. seems to be linked around the mobs or creatures getting stuck in terrain somehow. i think it is the spawning and falling while moving into final position. if remove a block they are stuck on or against they become aggressive and will attack. some of these are ranged attackers and could hit me but are not trying. they sometimes just turn to look toward me, but do not attack as they are stuck. think they think i'm behind cover. but soon as a block is removed next to it or most likely under then they seem to unfreeze and the ai refreshes and will attack.
Hi there same issue, though RE so I'm trying to find a way to repeat it in Vanilla, but as you guys might noticed does not happen all the time. But it seems like the AI Pathfinding is shutting down. Mobs don't attack, turrets don't attack. Sometimes it's fully as in my as the player running around. Sometimes only if I'm in a hover vehicle or construct, but it seems to stay frozen. We were going to launch a Server for the 1st of Jan, but this is really broken for us to the point we have decided to cancel our New Years plans / Server till it's figured out. I sadly wish I could find a way to repeat it or help produce the bug. https://streamable.com/vv9e1x example clip EDIT: Also found that this happens on any start planet so far, not a type, etc or at least it does not seem to be.
People are reporting similar issues in vanilla: https://www.reddit.com/r/empyriongame/comments/18uvh5a/spiders_parasaurs_freezing_up/ Regardless, this issue isn't something we can fix in a scenario so it does need to be tested and reported in vanilla saves so they can get as much info as possible.
Is there any reliable clear repro steps for this ? I tried these steps multiple times on a server with the same scenario & the NPC's all reacted to me almost instantly after they were triggered to spawn. I have not seen this happen in any play session (MP or SP).
Not any more than already listed. However, I have found this is more prevalent on Official EU/NA or other large player base servers than servers that have 2 people or single-player games.
I have to agree trying this that is seems to be a numbers game. Overall we noticed it happen more the more people were on said playfield. I can't tell you if you had 10 people 10 diff playfields if it happen more or less, but I know with a few people in the same playfield it was for sure happening more freq. I had also had it once in SP when testing stuff, but I could not replicate it. I wish I could figure a trigger. My two mates actually had an issue where one them could not see the other. I don't think I have heard of seen this bug before, but I'm a bit rusty. When he relogged he was fine, but almost made me wonder if it has something to do with the AI... Even to make things more complex I got into a situation where the AI broke and I tried AI ON command and it worked and other cases it had no effects. It's so random and so strange, I can't really say what is going on. I spent prob 12 hours trying to mess with this on my own without much luck on anything. I really feel bad I hate bugs like this that make things annoying to deal with. I tried finding references to this issue before the last hotfix, but I could not find any, but the last hotfix does not seem to be something that would of messed with the AI... So unless people did not report it before or ignored it or there more that happen in the background then listed, I'm not really sure how the devs are going to find this one. Hopefully they can add some sort of large debugging for us to enable and hopefully it can spit it out some how.
I have this happen a lot. NPCs just react incredibly slowly, slow enough that you can sometimes walk right up and stand next to them and take your time to line up headshots. I do play a custom scenario however as I have not tested in vanilla.
Same issue, playing reforged Eden. Seemed to be after initial drone attack on a base, AI ON had no effect. Hostile mobs stopped responding and all mobs stopped patrolling. Not sure on a fix yet or cause.
Okay. I saw this got moved, and that sparked something in my brain. Questions. - First, could this bug be related to ping? I only noticed it on servers I'm not on the same continent as the machine. - Second, Could players joining and downloading files be part of the cause? Either way, there are two more possible factors to test.
I can walk right up to NPCs in single player and they will often not react for a good 10+ seconds. But it seems to happen a lot more on a server even though I have great ping to it. I don't know if this is the same issue or not, but it definitely happens all the time to me in MP to the point where it's expected behavior from the AI.
i've tried several time to duplicate the ai issues. best i can do it trigger a spawn of npcs usually at top of a poi, and go away. ie quit the game or leave the playfield. And come back to the poi or open field "some" of the mobs will be glitched others will not be. any new ones deep in a poi will be working perfect or in an open field.
That leads me to another question. If they can't path to something, is there default to just stay still, or could it be they are in an endless pathing loop?
I have had this, though not same consistency, but where half the AI stopped. Like spiders would not work, but something like the abominations or whatever their called would move around. This was via a POI.
Unlikely to be ping. I'm having a similar issue. Playing Co-Op with a friend of mine (I'm the host). Hostiles stopped attacking me, but kept attacking him. Seemed to be just small base guns (player) and mobs that ignored me. Anti-ship guns still targeted me. Fired up a multiplayer server (local LAN connection). Played for a while, with mobs working fine. This same friend of mine joins the server, and all of a sudden, mobs started to COMPLETLEY ignore me again. I could walk up to them and shoot them with zero reaction. Anti-ship guns on bases still try to shoot me normally. Edit: I restarted the MP server and mobs started acting appropriately again. Might play with this same buddy again tonight - will see if his presence bugs it out again. I suspect I can reproduce this bug on any server by having myself and my friend both join it.
Interesting. I never had it where it attack one but not the other besides when mobs/ai get dumb and were attacking them first and take a long time to switch targets haha. That being said I have triggered the AI not responding on my own server while no one else was on. If you use EAH you can right click the player and I think edit and unload playfield. Helps with not having to take the entire server down each time to fix the issue.
