Fixed Turrets not Engaging enemies [7416] [A12.3]

    I too have noticed Turrets being distracted by far lower threats than what they really should be shooting at. Add to that the often long target switching delay and you already have a problem. Then, perhaps linked to the target switching delay, you have turrets that simply don't fire...until they do.

    Consistently this issue gets worse the longer I play for and it also cannot be caught in a saved game. I.e. save your game (SP obviously) where the turrets are blatantly stuck, reload and they'll start firing instantly.

    I don't think my PC can reliably record and play any more, but I'll try to get a recording. I downloaded OBS, though not used it yet, as my original recording software got updated and didn't work again so I was looking for something else. OBS seems fairly popular, not sure of the resource overhead though.

    While this issue with turrets is of course a problem, it equally begs for additional target priority controls to be available to the player. I.e. yes, I'd like my turrets to shoot at both Drones and Troops, but I want it to shoot Drones first. We need a new UI element to select the targets the turret should shoot and move them around for prioritisation.

    Happens multiple times now where the turrets seem to do whatever they want. Sometimes they're just like, "Nah, not feeling it right now," and decide to take a break. Other times they start shooting at something and even after its dead the turrets have decided that the building it was shooting at doesn't have enough holes. Its weirdly inconsistent and it wastes plenty of ammo.

    I know this Topic is a few Months old but i have Problems with my Turrets in my actual Game (currently latest stable Version Alpha 11.5 vanilla), i hope someone reads here and is trying to Fix the not engaging Turrets.

    There are multiple Situations now where the Turrets on my CV and HV simply are not shooting at Targets. I made a shielded CV with Canon Turrets and tried to fight a POI (Drone Base, just for testing how it works) but the Turrets where not shooting at the Base. After all Drones and Troops where dead the turrets stoped shooting and did nothing. A CV has only Sentry Guns and Canon Turrets that work on a Planet, when the Turrets randomly stop working the only thing you can do is flee, this is annoying.

    Second Situation was with my Hover Tank. It did not shoot on the Bases, only the Troops and Drones. Then i divided the Turrets in to 3 Groups and made seperate settings for each Group (1 group for Troops, 1 group for Bases and 1 mixed) and finally it worked, the Base Group and the mixed Group where attacking the Base. But non of my Turrets was shooting at the Enemy Sentry Guns. Never. I could not bring my Hover Tank Turrets to shoot at Sentry Guns, no matter what i tried. I had to manually destroy them.

    Third Situation was with my Hover Miner. It has a Single Turret for simple Defense. I was Mining on a Lava Planet and 2 Overlords were approaching but my Turret did nothing. I could manually use it to successful attack them but the Turret absolutely did nothing on its own, absolute useless. On my way Back i encountered another Overlord and this time the Turret was shooting. Another 2 where joining and then my Turret starts randomly switching Targets and then suddenly stops.

    This is terrible, for HVs and CVs Turrets are the only real defense, but if they randomly stoping to work they are useless.

    I've noticed BA mini-gun turrets track targets (like hostile bugs that approach the base) but not fire for well over 20 seconds or randomly not at all. They are all within 50 meters, and there's a clear shot, but they just don't fire.. I keep jumping around the bugs hoping the base will fire the turrets as intended. (Yes, they are selected as targets in the settings). I can't reproduce on demand as it seems to be random, but irritating.

    It is random, but somehow depends on particular turret. I have HV with 3 miniguns, grouped ad configured exactly the same. One fires on almost every zirax entity as configured. Second will fire sometimes (50%, more or less), third *almost* never targets ground troops, but will usually target drones. And no, different fields of fire cannot explain this.

    I usually find this happens when you are moving to fast for the turrets to track me. its like they have a brain fart and just stop for a bit, I like it, you should leave it in the game... zirax, damn windows has crashed again!

    This happens almost every single time with my CV turrets at POIs. They just lock up and refuse to fire at anything, even when a turret is shooting right at them...

    Happens a lot to me when testing POIs. All turrets will sometimes stop firing for 10 seconds or more.

    Im running a small pve server for my friends but recently i have been having issues with turrets refusing to engage nearby enemies or taking too long to aquire them as targets, i just lost my own cv today because of this and would like to know if this is a well known bug and if theres already a fix in progress, sadly i have my server down till this is fixed as the newer drones shred bases and ships that cant defend themselves even on easy dificulty.

    To further clarify i first noticed this issue in a sp world with an hv minigun turret. Dronzer flew in and turret didnt lock on or fire. I wrote it off as a one time deal thought nothing of it. But then today a plasma drone wrecks my cv on my server because mini gun locks up and wont fire. A laser drone finished it of later when i was trying to repair.

    I see it as a pretty game breaking bug, i got a few friends that play on the server with me but now im afraid to run it and have this happen to them.

    There will be some adjustments for turrets in A12.3 currently no ETA for when A12.3 will be ready.

    It just happend (A12.2.3 2980) that my HV Turrets not enganged when some Spiders (5) and Assassins (2) showed up, i drove around them but no shooting. Then i stopped and exited the HV to fight them on foot and at the moment i leave my HV the Turrets engaged and started to Fire. I could reproduce this with other Targets, the Turrets stopped with multiple Targets around and start working as i leave the HV. I'm looking forward to A12.3 and hopefully better working Turrets. :)

    Ooo, this is good news. The unresponsive turret issue have been around for e very long time. I notice it every single game. Earlier this evening for example four large Drones and a Troop Transport were approaching my base and my turrets took ages before they engaged. After the first Drone was down, it was a good 10 seconds plus (it's been worse!) before they engaged the next target. It was only my distracting of the Drones that preserved my base.

    I will be testing this one thoroughly when 12.3 is available...don't disappoint me! ;)
