I'd like to suggest that we could have a creative mode simulation block, similar to the teleporter block, except it allows you to use something similar to creative mode while still in your game. Why do we need in-game creative mode? It's awkward and time consuming exiting survival/server and starting creative, then back again, perhaps several times. Players in creative lose contact with other players, breaking social contact between coop buddies, faction mates, and general server chat. It would be nice to work in creative under a specific scenario/config/server's settings, so that you don't have to disconnect to see ship stats/limits etc. would be in that server/scenario. What's an easy way to implement it? New block very similar to the teleporter - creative-simulator When you activate it, the creative-simulator records/stores your inventory and hotbar, then clears your inventory It teleports you to a blank playfield with nothing in it. Class size, max structures and other restrictions remain and are enforced It enables god-mode style movement, 'h' key block inventory, undo, mirror, and any other creative mode features possible. It also gives you a colour/texture tool and multi-tool to save time. It disabled warp, ATM access, market access, PDA access, and dying There is a reasonable limit to how many blocks can be placed or removed per second per player, to prevent slowing down of server. Activate any creative-simulator to exit When the player exits, all inventory is removed, original/stored inventory is restored, and they are teleported back to first creative-simulator The advantage of this process is that it deviates only a little from current teleporter behaviour (easy to implement), allows you to stay in chat, and its relatively quick as it doesn't require a full game reload (which we don't want anyway, we want to keep current config/settings). It's also fairly immersive.
Creative Mode is at least for those among us, who build POI's for us to raid, the only way to build them.
anything bigger than a basic HV or SV I like to build in creative.. removing big blocks takes forever with multitool great idea, your buddies could come check on what you're making too, give feedback on the go, nice idea
Only thing I would maybe change is rather than a new blank playfield, a dedicated persistent creative playfield. In SE we often used to co-op on a dedicated server to build stuff together which was very useful and I miss that in this.
This is very close to a suggestion I've been thinking of making for a while. Holodeck blocks. Same idea (I was thinking they would open to a local creative game on your PC but collaborative on multiplayer sounds awesome). You could have tiers of block. A 1x1x1 block with low power consumption that opens say a 500m x 500m planet playfield with no mobs (using oxygen from your CV or base) in creative, limited to class size one and limited to one or two players. Mid tier, a 3x3x3 block simulating a whole normal playfield (planet or space) allowing a max of say five players. Top tier, a 5x5x5 block simulating a whole solar system and allowing a whole player faction inside with much higher power consumption and the option to turn the safeties off. Other shenanigans could include walking through a door in a POI and not realising you've gone into Zarniwoop's office.
Ive been on a server that had creative mode only playfields, ideal to show friends your builds, or work together on something was advised to save your build before exiting not sure if it's still around, but it wasnt hard to find in the list.
I wonder if you and/or the OP can possibly accomplish your goals with the instance teleporter, that big stargate looking thing which needs lots of setup to function. It teleports you to a temporary game field which spawns the same way each time you go there.
